You have a very valid point rossyl......and I certainly do not disagree with your point.......Maserati is still something of an unknown to many and no matter what we think the company still has a stigma around it from its past as unreliable and expensive to maintain cars.........where as Audi has the opposite I suppose. It takes a very long time to shake off a reputation and although it is loads better than it has been with the cars they make now they are still Italian and that would be enough to put some off and go German...........I think you are pretty spot on with that comment........

I think both your points a spot on and accurately explain why many people who can afford a Maserati choose not to buy one.

As someone who admired the brand for 20+ years but only took the leap into owning one 2 years ago, I am a good example. The brand view from outside is that the cars are characterful, drive well but not the best, but are ruinously expensive to run in terms of repairs, unreliability and depreciation. The reality for me so far has been that they are characterful, drive extremely well (within the GTs intended usage), are completely affordable to run from a reliability and depreciation standpoint (just as good as some Germans if not better).

For me I've always loved how the GT looked but never needed/wanted a 4 seat sports car.

Having 2 kids changed that view. Coincide that with wanting a change of the Aston and there was only one choice.

And R8 isn't a direct competitor really.

I'm not a huge fan of the Ghibli and latest Quattroporte (the last version of which I thought was great). And I really am not keen on the "sports 4x4"s that seem to be all the rage either. I fear they may struggle...

The Alfieri and the replacement GT are what they really need I reckon...though the GT could easily be eeked out by an interior update (not that I dislike the current one! In fact I absolutely love the one in mine).
