Maserati GranTurismo Servicing with Halfords

I'm sure some of them would be more than capable of changing oil and filters, but with a car like this, it pays to be seen by someone that actually knows the cars and it's potential issues. If you don't want to pay main dealer prices (I wouldn't do that either lol) then a good independent is the way to go.

Also, when it comes to selling, a Halfords stamp on the book would make most run a mile. Lol

In fact, I'd rather see an owner has serviced it themselves with supporting receipts, than a Halfords stamp.

Thanx for the above. Let me be more forthcoming: I bought my GT on Cinch recently (2016, 27k miles and 1 owner) - fantastic motor and have had it checked out by an Indy (full diagnostics, ramp & road test etc) - given a clean bill of health. Cinch has got an aftercare offer which provides servicing, lifetime warranty and breakdown assistance based on monthly payments. Looks like a good deal on the warranty & b/down cover but the servicing is done by Halfords, which is what prompted my initial note. I am kinda inclined to agree with you.....

I can see how you're tempted. I know nothing about Cinch other than I've seen the cringy adverts lol.
You would need to look into the warranty in great detail, as I doubt it would be that comprehensive on a car like this. Do you know who the warranty company is?

My opinion would be that a 1 owner, 2016 car with 27k miles is worth spending the extra on as it would pay for itself if/when you sell it. You want to keep a decent service history with respected indies or Maserati really.
If you feel you need a warranty for piece of mind, compare what you're being offered with something like warrentywise etc

These cars are are expensive to keep, but pretty reliable. 90% of costs are wear and tear items and a warranty wont cover them anyway.
You said its had a thorough inspection with someone you trust, so I'd put the monthly payments into a rainy day/emergency repair savings account. Budget 1.5k to 2k a year for servicing and repairs. It'll much cheaper some years and a little over others depending on timing of consumables. But you shouldn't go far wrong.

Any pics?

Thanx Sam - great suggestion on comparing the warranty cover.

I am with you on the Cinch ads - total yuck! I have been looking for a midlife crisis car for some time - been vacillating between (..in no particular order):
  • Audi R8 - 'The one who must be obeyed' didnt like just 2 seats
  • Bentley Conti - thought my neighbours would probably talk behind my back
  • Mas / Aston Martin
On a total whim, surfed Cinch and found this car - couldnt believe it!

I would not trust Halfords to change a bulb let alone service a car with a highly stressed motor like a GT.

Given the fact that intervals are 24m, you need them checked out properly by a mechanic who knows what to look for. Holfods YTS staff are just not up to the job...even on white-goods type cars.

Seriously if you save on the service you will loose far more when it comes to sell and most specialists will not PX your car with such dodgy maintenance.

On my wife's car, I trusted them to change a headlight bulb, and they put it in upside down.

I hope that is a good thing. V5 shows 1 previous owner.
That depends how you look at it.....

If you really, REALLY wanted a pre-facelift 4.2, yours is probably one of the best out there.

However, if an early 4.2 wasn't your intented goal, and you paid anywhere near the same for it as an equivalent face-lift 2016 4.7 Sport, then I fear may have overpaid somewhat and narrowed down your resale market substantially.

If you're unaware what Dicky is saying - it appears that your car is a pre-facelift 4.2 granturismo? What does it say on the logbook?
They stopped manufacturing those in 2012 (I think), but the occasional one has come up registered a bit later, probably by a year or so.
So on the face of it, it appears that your car was probably manufactured prior to 2013 and sat around somewhere for 4 years before being registered.

Only you can decide if that's a good thing or not. If you're happy with it and intending to keep it long term, and you paid the right price for it, then that's fine.

It's not a face lift, it has the 'original' style front, hence the belief this was potentially a new 'old stock' car.

4.2's did have a facelift. Changes were:

- LED Headlights
- Seats were changed from the comfort ones to the older "Granturismo S" ones
- Steering wheel also changed to the flat top
