I am correct in saying that the 4200 shares an engine block and transmission from Ferrari?

They most certainly do Andrew , bottom end is the Ferrari 430 engine , main differences are the stroke and bore size , otherwise its the same unit , heads and rocker covers are also different , gearbox is very similar robotised but Ferrai run enhanced software , plain and simple thats it , the Maserati 4200 engine was ferrari's testing ground for the 430 , but being ferrari they made sure the Maserati was de-tuned down to 400 ish whereas the 430 produces 500bhp i believe

Hi Andrew, the 4200 block is the same as the F430. The bore is the same but the stroke is longer hence 4.3 rather than 4.2. That's where it ends really. Crankshaft, rods, heads, manifold, throttle body(ies), engine management - all different. Not sure whether the Maserati transmission ever made it onto a Ferrari, but I'm sure someone will elaborate on that point.

Cheers, Miles.
