Great write up Robin, hope you get you car back soon.
As you say the LHM system is great as used in many Citroens, but lack of use causes all sorts of issues with seal going dry and accumulatros needing to be re-gassed etc. At least you have less compnents governed by the green fluid in the Bora than I with the Khamsin.

I think regards the quesion of safe etc, these cars have a different feel (i.e. 70's) but were the pinnacle of technology for their time. After all the average cars of the day were Allegros, Marinas etc. When compared to everyday cars of today, their specifications feel normal. But to put it into perspective the cost of a Khamsin around 1982 was about 38-40K, ( I think the Bora was a slightly lower priced car which had ceased production by then) which was far in excess of a normal 3 bedroom house mortgage. I tried to find some tables online to see what 38K would be worth taking into account inflation etc and I think I estimated it to be around 120K.
Best way I can describe the drive with my very basic driving skills is one of paying the car respect and it will reward you with a grin that doesn't dissipate even when you've parked up the car and gone into the house. Besides the look of originality in a sea of jelly moulds is brilliant.

Full of admiration on your determination and usage during your ownership of this wonderful car. I love the colour as I think that the metallic shades suit the lines far better than solid red. I think that the Bora has appreciated in terms of values and besides not many come up for sale very often. Though I don't suppose the percentage of RHD cars from the total production was very haigh in the first place.

I personally think it spoils the pure look of the car and although I have taken it on a high speed bowl a couple of times and on various circuits they are such rare occurrences that I wouldn't want to spoil the looks or the originality of the car in that way.

I certainly agree

Have to agree there, have to keep it standard , cant see the point in driving a car of that age at high speed ,with the potential of knocking the guts out of it , my pleasure would come purely from cruising it with the occasional blatt , and the looks on others faces , its cars like the 3200 and 4200 and later that are for caning when you feel like it , much easier to source the parts and repair, and probably cheaper

I do think it looks better without the chin, and as Loz points out, its not like you need to take the car over the tonne, more low speed posing :auto11:

I think you've hit the nail on the head Loz. It's all about the cruise with the occasional blast, "for maximum joy" as in Sade's words.

The chin spolier doesn't do anything for the pure lines of the car, all for keeping things original.
