Looking to buy my first Maserati.

I've been looking through the classifieds for a 2006/7 Quattroporte to buy. It must be a fully automatic gearbox as I have another automated manual car with paddles and I'd like to add an automatic.

Ideally I'm looking for blue or dark grey paintwork with tan leather. The variators need to have been done.

Does anyone know of an available car for me to buy?

Thanks in advance

I may possibly have what you're looking for.

I'll be putting my fantastic very late 2007 QP Sport GT up for sale probably next week. The colour is Grigio Granito with black leather seats/ white stitching, and the very rare Alcantara head lining with black piano wood trim. It has the ZF gearbox that you want, Bose sound, electric rear window blind, heated memory seats, CD changer, original 7-spoke 20 inch wheels with red brake calipers.
In the last 12 months I've had new drilled disks, the car has only 1 previous owner, supplied by HR Owen originally, Full main dealer service history, and yes, here it is.... The Variators were done about 12 months ago by Graypaul Maserati, when I started hearing a little bit of a rattle on morning startup, although it wasn't really a problem. I've also had full Hunter laser tracking done and a full set of original Huf TPMS sensors fitted about a month ago. This car is my daily driver, has miles of 97k which is average use for the age, it runs like a dream and has been maintained regardless of cost. I love this car, the best I've ever had, but I've got a fancy for a GT after almost 3 years of ownership. I doubt that you'll find a better genuine example of this very special car. All of the usual QP issues have been addressed and rectified during my ownership. PM me if you'd like more info.

Depends on the mileage and how many miles you plan to do per year but I'd be inclined to say the second. You could easily have 2-3 years + before the variators need doing and if you hunt around I'd be surprised if you can't get them done for £2k based on feedback I was getting

The parts alone are north of £1400 !

And to do the job properly with everything removed and the set up process with dial gauges turning the engine over multiple times by hand and then reassemble all that you had to remove you are in to minimum 40 hours.
Setting these engines up are like no other to get them right.

Specialists charge about £1500 if it's just the variators, or £2400 if it's the variators and the replacement cam-caps. Plus vat.

....so you can either pay an extra £2,000 on the purchase price for the peace of mind that the variators have been done, or you can pay £2,000 less and take about a 50% chance that you will need to pay out £1,500-£2,500 at some point.
Or you can be like Rockits and look at a car that has been listed at £20,995 for a while, wait for the owner to get nervous enough to pay for the variators to be done at Migliore, and then take it off his hands for £17,500. :)
