on another note I dont think any standard GS is worth over £35k in any colour, age or mileage. They hold there money well, but the GT's can be had for only a few £k more so that directly affects the GS price.

I haven't seen GT's a "only few k more" than GS's. On PH they are typically >17k over 35k... What have you got in mind -any links?

Thought Avorio and Crema was the same to be honest......Looks OK ot me, doesn't look harsh but would have been better with blue carpets......Black and blue doesn't really go for me and its the wrong side of 30k for me but sure a deal could be done....

No that is Avorio, that car was for sale about 2 months ago, i started a thread on it, dealer obviously removed the ad as he could not sell it, price is still the same as before, think it is decent money especially as it is an 07 with low miles.

I know I could go speak to my man today and get a GT for £40k. I wont reveal who that is, so dont ask. All I will say is approach a dealer, not main, tell them your budget and see what they come up with, you will be amazed. We have discussed this time and time again, the main dealers are holding the stock back and drip feeding the market so as to keep prices high. Hence they have alot of stock behind closed doors, which can be had outside of the open market. For 17k over the highest GS (£35k) I could have a GTS MC shift.

This is a trade seller, what do you think he bought the car for, I would bet £40k:

Another:

GTS, main dealer will make £8-10k on a car:

Plus.....in the 40Ks miles wise......bit of a turn off..........hence the price

P

Yes, I accept that, they will not be the lowest mileage nor the best spec, as those will fly out the door and no need to discount to shift. If you wait till Xmas, which is what I am going to do, you will be amazed at what you can get!

2 week in December or early to mid Jan, the main dealer showrooms will be like the Mary Celeste, better to make a grand than nothing.

For me the GS and the GT represent very slightly different markets. The GS is a 'proper' sports coupe, slightly heavy at 1680 kilos but close enough to a 911 to be comparable (and certain mags have reviewed the GS favourably against the stock 911).

The GT is to me a full-on grand tourer, comparable to the V12 Ferraris in terms of function. I know you can get 'sportier' versions of the GT, but how much of the refinements are a step change in performance? I think a GS would beat a GT-S around Fiorano, despite having less cubes. Happy to be proved wrong - Maserati must have these stats!

Interesting face off MS...GS Versus GTS.........up-grading the brakes and suspension are worthwhile options on the standard GT...to make it stop and handle far better......don't truly need extra ooommppphhh...

You would have thought the GS would beet the GTS round a track but I am not so sure. Anyone had a GS and a GTS who could comment?

My mate tracked his GTS and said it was awesome, beat everything on the track, but I guess he would say that wouldnt he. I have tracked my car twice and both times in the rain and I am a pretty good driver and was getting done in the corners in my GS by just about everything, Fiat 500 Arbath included. Mind you, my mates Corvette was disappearing in my rear view mirror every lap.

As a certain Mr Chapman said, it's all about the weight. I fancy a GS against a GTS simply because it is 200 kilos lighter and there is not a huge difference in BHP. Would be nice to be proved wrong though, just to know that Maserati are 'moving forward' in that regard.

Anyway, the performance bar has been pushed so high by the latest Lambo, the McClaren, the Porsche Turbo and the GT-R that is probably wrong to think of a Maser these days as a performance/track car. It's a classy fast car. Which is enough.

Ok, found this:

Maserati 2004 GranSport Coupe: 1680 kg (3696 lbs)
Hockenheim Short 1:16.20
Vairano Handling Course 1:22.72
Zolder 1:46.45
Autozeitung test track 1:43.10
Nordschleife 8:18.00
SportAuto wet handling test 1:29.60
Ring Knutstorp 1:15.40
Gotland Ring (Northern Loop) 1:39.30

Maserati Grantorismo S: 1880 kg (4136 lbs)
Hockenheim Short 1:16.30
Sachsenring 1:40.99 36/124
Vairano Handling Course 1:21.01
Autozeitung test track 1:42.30
Balocco 2:54.70
Camden Airport (pre 10/2010) 1:11.82
Kyalami 2:05.20

Maserati GranTurisimo: 1880 kg (4136 lbs)
Hockenheim Short 1:17.60
Oschersleben 1:51.22
Autozeitung test track 1:43.60
Inta 1:13.81
Balocco 2:59.20

Maserati 3200: 1590 kg (3498 lbs)
Hockenheim Short 1:18.40
Nordschleife 8:37.00
Vairano Handling Course
MIRA Dry Handling Track
Mantorp Park 1:36.30

Maserati 4200 Coupe: 1580 kg (3476 lbs)
Hockenheim Short 1:19.20
Nordschleife 8:30.00I
Vairano Handling Course 1:23.63
Autozeitung test track 1:46.40
Top Gear Track 1:38.00

I must say I am surprised at the 3200 but it was never the best handling car sure an AC could get closer to a GS. I am also dubious about the weight of the 4200 being 100kgs lighter than the GS, that cant be right.

interesting matt.......i dont htink its right but if we were to go by the hockenheim track which is featured in all the cars then the GS is faster and the 3200 beats the 4200......that last one cant be right, the 3200 feels slow round bends

The 4200 is the same weight as a GranSport. The only weight difference among the breed is with the MC Victory, which is 20kg lighter by virtue chiefly of pared down front seats.

It should be no surprise that the 4200 trails in last, it is unfortunately a poor handling car. I have often believed that it would heavily benefit from lowering and, ideally, stiffer springs. Would love to hear from anyone who has lowered their 4200.

Back to Matt's point about withholding GranTurismo stock - the current prices are all about supply and demand. GranSport prices are higher perhaps than you might expect, but that is because there are so few 06 and 07 low mileage examples available on the market. In fact, there are only 20 odd GS's for sale across the country currently. Compare that to 70 odd GranTurismo's, not including the withheld stock. A good, low mileage GS should hold its price for a while to come.
