Probably because 9 out of 10 car dealers are thick and have a mentality of horse salesmen.... unfortunately that has been my experience to date. You are spot on, it would take someone 10 min to correctly describe what they are selling but clearly they do not get it or cannot be bothered, eitherway they are not selling themselves very well....
Or they just don't have the expertise to know the hundreds of different varietals of the different models they sell. Coupled with the feeling of superiority it gives some potential buyers that they are getting 'something over' on the nasty nasty dealer, so are more likely to buy the car.....
