Probably because 9 out of 10 car dealers are thick and have a mentality of horse salesmen.... unfortunately that has been my experience to date. You are spot on, it would take someone 10 min to correctly describe what they are selling but clearly they do not get it or cannot be bothered, eitherway they are not selling themselves very well....
Or they just don't have the expertise to know the hundreds of different varietals of the different models they sell. Coupled with the feeling of superiority it gives some potential buyers that they are getting 'something over' on the nasty nasty dealer, so are more likely to buy the car.....

Just a thought, like

You could be right C. Maybe some reverse psychology. All car dealers aren't often as stupid as they play or make out. Some are of course!

I am sorry but its their job. Its not like they are selling cars in a spare time. All we are asking is they do their job...

After speaking to them, they are aware as to what the car is on the face if it with comments like ‘lot of car for the money’. However I think this dealer may be a little ignorant to the car when it comes to the detail.

So car has a full MD service history at regular intervals and then they say it would be serviced by them before a sale! They said their service would be on par with an MD and I had to stop him short and insisted that if I was buying it I would maintain the md servicing and he didnt like that haha.

Overall I think that they thought the car might have sold a lot quicker than it has and they complexly mis judged the ‘nature’ of the car they are selling! Despite where it is being sold from, this could be a case of a good motor being sold by people who simply do not have our level of technical know how as to the brand, which i can understand!

Agreed...sometimes you have to see past the difficulties and work through them. Sometimes it is harder work than others however often when it feels like too much hard work then often it is all wrong and best to ignore.

I enquired about an R129 SL Silver Arrows this week which has just popped into the market. The R129 has 12 month or 9k service intervals. This car was advertised with Full Mercedes Service History. It has had 3 services apparently in nearly 18 years. When I quizzes the seller about this he said he hadn't used it much so that is OK.

It is up for silly money and is a CAT D car as well as the garage roof fell on the car apparently. It is twice the price that I will probably sell my SL for and mine has had a service every year since new.

Some sellers really are deluded.

I think a garage should know more about the product they are selling. How can it inspire confidence when you don't know what you are selling. How can they service a car to MD levels of they don't know much about the car. I would leave it sitting there for another couple of years I think!

Well the QP was on sale with this desler im 2017 for 35k then refuced to 29k! That alone tells me they were clueless when it came to the market ,priced themselves well out’.

I wonder if anyone here would be kind enough here to stop by and have a look at the car? General walk around.

HWM Aston Martin in Walton in Thames is advertising a very rare Vantage V600 as having 150hp and 5 seats, 4x too low on the former and 2.5x high on the latter.

Pi55-poor attention to detail is not exclusive to small indie dealers, sadly.

It's a bit out of my area. And I fear I may buy it if I did :D

having just read this post, sounds like an ideal opportunity to offer a ridiculously low figure if car as described, they may be prepared to take a loss just to offload it if they've had it that long, especially if there in person and ready to talk money, I would assume traders/dealers get a lot of timewasters on the phone and don't take them seriously and then assume everyone is a waster on the blower even the genuine ones

One can quite confidently assume most Maserati owners don’t live in that area.
I’ve walked through Basildon a number of times when I’ve been collecting my car from Dub Customs. I’m inclined to concur with your assumption.

Mind you, most Maserati owners don’t live in any area.

The guys at the tractor plant in Basildon told me that when Marchione visited about a year and a half ago they had to get a dealer to register a brand new Ghibli S and have it ready for him to drive from the airport to there, apparently he kicked up a stink when they said they'd got a diesel one, had to be petrol! Nothing like being the boss!
