Like This Spyder. Anyone know it?

Since selling my Grancab I have no convertible in the fleet. Been looking at Fiat Barchetta’s or Alfa Spiders to buy as a cheap solution, then saw this.

Seems so much car for the money and that V8, but is this going to cost me about the same putting it right?

MOT history is the usual warnings on brake linings and tyres and I am not bothered by the small hood tears in the photos. Am I looking thru rose tinted specs because of the lovely colour combo?

Beautiful colour scheme and some good history too.
The subframe replacement must have cost a bit too.
Worth a look I reckon and then an inspection.

If all is as described that looks like a bargain, clutch changed at 50k so likely to be needed again soon and the intermittent fault from the front hub but at that price these are factored in

It looks clean and looked after. Seems to have been driven with respect, ( 44k on clutch) but could need one soon. If you use it as it is its a cheap car if you end up fitting a clutch and a few bits its a £17-18K car. Inspection required

Looking at the mot history it might need brake pipes and brakes replaced unless it’s had that done recently, plus that wheel bearing...
Still looks nice from the pics but needs proper inspection

Have a chat with @CatmanV2 - that looks like where he bought his Bentley. Maybe some insight into the dealer?

You are absolutely correct. Bloke's name is John (honest) I found him very straight and helpful. No pressure sales, very communicative. Sent loads of photos when I asked.
My car is pretty straight. I knew there were a couple of issue but the aircon stopped as well (law of sod) but the independents that I sent it to for some of the work rated it highly.

I'd buy from him again.

Looks like one of the later ones with the glass rear window and improved chassis rigidity but pre-facelift. The one to go for in my opinion but does seem cheap.

That seems like a lot of car for not a lot of money .... too good to be true?

Personally I'd much rather be mooching about in that rather than a Fiat or Alfa so get your a$$ down there and take a look :p

Thanks for all the replies and the general consensus seems to be that I’ve stumbled upon a potential good ‘un!

Thx for offer Catman, and I’ll mention you when I call them.

Ooooh that may not be a great idea. Just because I thought he was a decent chap doesn't mean he thought the same

No seriously I can't see there being any issue ;)

That went through BCA auctions about a week ago. I have the condition report but they're usually worthless

I have to say, I think it looks a little untidy and the fact it was sold through BCA suggests that too. The back bumper needs painting, the interior looks ok but still needs a spruce up, there's a wheel hub, a radio issue, maybe a clutch, maybe brakes and so on. I'd personally look for a better one for a few quid more as we all know what can happen with a cheap Maserati.

Having said that, I did buy a gold QPV for not much money with similar risk but at least I knew that the previous owner had spent on it mechanically and is well known on here etc.

Just my 2p worth.

It sold on the 3rd attempt afterhours, I found the reserve high (12.5k) for the general condition, had previous poor repairs and the clutch risk. I assume he took an offer close to that.

Thinking about it and taking the last few comments into consideration, I think I’ll go back to hunting down a simple and cheap to fix Barchetta. I have enough complex premium brand cars on the fleet that are expensive to maintain, and I’m just looking for a cheap characterful summer ragtop as we’re near the coast.

good thinking, how about a nice little MG Midget, just bought this little thing for my youngest daughter as a summer runabout, a real fun thing to drive and plenty of character, cheap classic car insurance, free tax and no more mot's

My very first car was a 1971 Midget Mk3 i bought for £700 in 1982. UFU 615J. Went to my first of over 30 LM 24h in it in 1986 and was hooked on the event from then on. Great memories and a good idea. Cheap and simple to maintain.

You should buy it, there may not be a better one at just a little more money, it deserves a good home and to live on. If it wasn't for the likes of us it would just languish and eventually be lost.
