Saw a picture of it last week, well the latest incarnation.

Very much based on the Ghibli, it didn't blow me away but due to be at the Geneva show in March for October delivery, 3.0 litre Diesel only.

I wonder how much it has changed since the early pictures and why the delay? As has already been discussed, it looks like they have missed the boat for the Chinese market that they were aiming for but I guess we need to keep an open mind until we see it for real

I can't see it being anything else Peter.

I saw the earlier shots when it was named Kubang about 5 years ago and it looked quite good. I've seen spy shots recently and it looked horrendous, let's hope it's not that bad... Has to be prettier than the new Bentley though, that's truly hideous.

What is the extra black bit on the roof line? If it was the lower outline it would look ok but not with that stupid "high top"

That's quite clearly a modified Ghibli body shell 'mule'. It's not the finished article! This is what Maserati revealed as the Kubang a while back. It'll look very similar to this:

It certainly was clear that it was Ghibli based when I saw it last March outside the factory...

I think the Kubang concept looks pretty good, the spy shots are hopefully just to put us all off the scent. Let's pray it looks close to the Kubang.

Agreed, it's not offensive by any means. First diesels now SUV's....this is the concerning bit for me.

Unfortunately, this is where they have to go to make money these days. Everyone is doing SUVs these days - Rolls Royce, Bentley, Jaguar, Lamborghini and diesel remains the biggest selling fuel (for the time being) particularly in Europe.

I agree Dicky, I quite like it.

I'm so pathetically biased though and am already plotting to buy one for the wife to ferry the kids around in.....

If you look at Kubang and current Ghibli images alongside each other, you can see some of the lines from the Kubang feature quite strongly in the Ghibli, eg rear wheel arch, front grill shape, bonnet lines. So I'm expecting to see something quite similar to the Kubang concept updated to reflect the current design language of the Ghibli and QP. For me, that could make for quite a good looking SUV. As others have said, I doubt the body will look much like the mule as this is clearly just a Ghibli body shell with a few aero mods for testing purposes.

Am I offended by the idea of a Maserati SUV? No, not if it secures the viability and profitability of the brand and its future sports and GT cars. The Cayenne and now Macan have been fundamental to this for Porsche.

Would I buy one? If it is any good, quite possibly as a daily driver as I enjoy SUVs having had a number of X5s and RRs over the years, but not as a replacement for a sports or GT Maserati.

The priority here surely is for Maserati to continue to be viable and profitable and to be in a position to develop the quality replacement sports and GT cars that we all want.
