quite liked the rv8 when it came out, seem to have gone up in price substantially over the past few years

Some years ago a private tour of MG B's travelled from Beijing,China to Abingdon overland. An opportunity arose to visit the MG factory in China & have the cars serviced. The occasion became humourous when the drivers realised that noone at the factory had any idea what a grease nipple is. Also,they had never before seen an MG B. Luckily the drivers had their own grease guns so the servicing got sorted to everyone's amusement.

The tour was a success with only one car not making the distance due to a collision with a local car in Turkey. We were surprised to find an MG Car Club in Turkey.

I don't want to rain on the parade but I wonder what a Maserati owner would see in an MG GT,since it drives like a lounge room on wheels ? The MG B was an old design when new. If you wanted performance you bought a Midget.

An MGB in chrome bumper roadster form is one of the best balanced cars around. The GT is pretty good too just a little heavier.

I don’t reckon anything has changed people never could service their cars properly the majority of things wrong with older cars were often caused by owners. I remember a guy at work cutting holes in the bonnet of his Capri in the yard to try and stop it overheating, he’d put the dissy in 180 degrees out.

I love the pre rubber bumper GT, they are really pretty from most angles but so small. Hopefully later this year I will be in the market for one and a Minor Traveller for my retirement plan

A pipe and slippers too mate to go with the Traveller oh and a flat cap to keep your head warm ;)

I think the Moggie is more suited to some amateur sleuthing in St Mary Mead, will you be getting a shawl for you retirement?

There used to be a guy who hill climbed a 50s Magnette with the 2.5 Mercedes Cosworth engine. Not seen it for a while though.

That's a lovely looking example. I've always wondered why they are so 'cheap' in comparison to many other cars of the type and era - hmmm....... sounds very similar to a certain Italian car manufacturer.....

Well I too have a Maserati GT and an MGB GT (71) - they both have their good and bad points. The MGB is easy to work on with cheap parts, it's also not worth much so you don't need to worry about what you do with it. Mine is a bit ratty and I'm keeping it that way, original paint because it had rust protection from new - seems a shame to re-spray the history.

Enjoy them both, I do!

I sure didn’t buy it for performance, and back in the day there’s no way a Midget would cut it, so I bought a Lotus Elan.

They have gone up a lot but I nearly fell off my chair when I saw how much power that V8 makes.

it's got some respectable performance figures, just googled it and didn't realise the majority of them were for the Japanese market only about 300 for uk and over 1500 for japan, the Japanese certainly have an appetite for limited number special production models, rather like the final edition integrale
