Larini X-Pipe Thoughts

So I'm still waiting for my Larini Sports Cats to be made and delivered.

Have had the Larini X-Pipe on for a short period.

Love the crackles and pops on the overrun.

However I'm finding I prefer the deeper rumble under acceleration without the X-Pipe.

Have been speaking to some other owners and they too have removed the X-Pipe and gone sports cats, backboxes and or H-pipe.

standard is x pipe too though, i thought it just sounded the same, just louder when i removed the centre silencer

I had the Larini X and sports cats and the sound was incredible and I was very happy with it. I didn't have the x on it's own though, I fitted both at the same time, but I would reserve judgement until you have the sports cats fitted as they make a real difference

Not sure I understand what you prefer in terms of setup. I prefer the H to the X pipe as it has a deeper boom and certainly from the feedback I receive from the general public others like it too!

Cheers guys.

Was referring to how the car sounds under acceleration with the X-Pipe. Seems like the deep rumble is lost. More a rasping sound.

Letting off the gas in second gear does sound amazing though with the X-pipe. Great crackles and pops.

Think I may follow your advice Stu and see how the car sounds with the X-Pipe and Sports Cats bolted on.

You talking about the standard car vs X pipe? As Beau says the standard uses a X pipe with resonator so why it sounds different I don't know maybe it is because it is just muffled and with the "unrestricted" X you can hear more of the engine and as you say pops and crackles. Sorry I was just trying to clarify what you were comparing and now I realise it is stock system vs unrestricted X pipe. If you want the deeper sound you need an H pipe.

Yep Cheers Contigo.

Talking Stock X-Pipe vs Larini X-Pipe.

Hearing from a few people the H-Pipe is deeper.

Keen to hear the Larini X-Pipe in conjunction with the Larini Sports Cats and then make a final decision.

That's my understanding of it and the gas flow rate is increased

I have only just fitted mine, will write up, a few disappointments in there. The new Larini (mine at least) does not have that central gusset (good word) that covers the weld, also, was filled with swarf that I had to rinse out for fear of it damaging back pipes and valves. Also, the rear swage is too big (about a mm) and takes a lot of force to insert. The front swage just right to a little large.

Anyway: to the sound. My car is a stradale, that some swear sounds different to other 4.7 GTS's, but I personally have never compared them. With just the Xpipe and all else standard, the best word for the sound is nasty, now, I am not sure yet if its a good nasty, or a bad nasty! Will need to drive it more! My son thought it sounded "drier". Will be interesting to see if I keep it or not.....

Sounds interesting, I definitely think the Strad has a much different sound to the regular GTS. How do you find the difference with the X in all modes? Is it just nasty in race or in sport and auto too?

It's nasty in race mode. As I said though, some may like the nastiness. I will get her out a bit at the weekend and give some more feedback.

Interesting, did you hear the video of the Strad with Larini cats and X pipe which was doing the rounds a few month back?

Here it is

I have the 4.2.

It's a difficult one and all personal preference I guess at the end of the day.

Just unsure whether to get the Larini X-Pipe taken off straight away or wait to hear it with the Larini Sports Cats.

What I'm after is that rich, deep Maserati sound under acceleration but with crackle on the over-run.

With the Larini X-Pipe, I got the over-run crackle and pop, but the acceleration sound is now higher pitched.

Yes I agree I don't like the X pipe it's too tinny and screams hence why I went H pipe.

"What I'm after is that rich, deep Maserati sound under acceleration but with crackle on the over-run"

That'd be the perfect combination for me.

I miss that rasp and crackle of the overrun that reminds me of past ALFA's but with more low down presence pulling away.

It'd be good to hear which permutation would give that
