Larini Backboxes for 4.2 - With or without valve control

So looking to pull the pin and buy the Larini backboxes for the GranTurismo 4.2 WITHOUT valve control.

Already have the Larini Sports Cats and X-Pipe installed.

My question is, will I regret not having the option to quiet the system down without the Valve control?

Hoping shifting to full auto by sliding the lever left will quiet the system down if required.

Any first hand experience here?

Sliding left? Surely right?

Anyway, I have unsilenced aiiiiitcccchh, and valved boxes. No sports cats and not Larini.

In full mode it is *loud* frankly in 'quiet' mode it's loud as well. It's not as loud as the ASBO club though, which I thought was odd.

It is, don't forget the calibration was out on the recording device when we measured yours.

When I had the sports cats, the X pipe and the rear boxes (all Larini) on my GTS, it was LOUD. It was of course quieter when the sport button was not pressed & therefore the valves were closed, but when they were open my girlfriend would not get in the car saying it was an embarrassment and Marios at Autoshield said it was pretty much un-driveable so I'll let you draw your own conclusions from that!

Cool Stuart. I have the 4.2 so I'm assuming it's not as loud as your former 4.7 at idle or under revs.

Read plenty of threads to that effect?

My concern I guess is that I don't want it to be crazy loud all the time (even though I realize there's no valve control in the 4.2).

I know at the moment with the Sports Cats and X-Pipe that its loud, but when its in full Auto, its more than quiet enough.

Hi Robert,
As you may remember I had a wonderful 4.2 with the Larini (non valved) back boxes. I bought that as one car I looked at to buy (a 4.2) had the X-Pipe and also the Larini back boxes. I thought it was incredible - but my wife said there was too much drone in the back at normal speeds. My car with just the back boxes was slightly drony at say 2-2.5k rpm. It didn't bother me, but it was nicer driving at 75mph than 70!!
In my mind now, I would probably buy the valved as it just gives the option to be more comfortable for longer journeys... You would have a keyring with the valve button on it i believe. So since you already have a couple of mods, I'd recommend the valved - even though it's a little more money. Just my thoughts. I absolutely loved the back boxes, and it made the car so much nicer for me inside - outside it was loud enough without, but I couldn't hear it in the car with a standard 4.2!
I don't think it easy to retrofit valves after fitting which would be my concern if I was in your shoes...
Good luck!
Laurence

Agreed, I think valves are the way forward and give you more flexibility but either way, the tone that the full Larini system gives is fantastic. More Italian & racy I would say and less US muscle car - very nice

This is about as good as I can find with Larini H pipe and Larini Valved boxes (you hear them whilst open)

And then this a GT without any rear silencers but stock everything else.

The black GT sounds good for a cheap simple mod. Will give a nice weight reduction as well.

Not sure why they have decided to put music across the back of a video when trying to listen to exhaust audio on the other one.
