So

My 2009 GTS with 30K miles on it sounds like a bag of nuts, have X-pipes on thanks to Marios but last week when putting on sports mode drivers side sounds like a bucket of nuts and normal mode doesn't sound good.

Rear silencer section found second hand both sides on ebay for around 1200, mines is the oval tip as MC Shift GTS not quad pipes so harder to find.

Few questions

1. Is it repairable - anyone ever cut the box apart and repaired internals ?
2. If I have to replace one side do I update them both to something like a Larin ?
3. Thoughts ?

Your issue may well be the valve. I have the same on my retrofitted boxes. I'm intending to have the valve cut out and replaced. It really should not be hard

My right box did this, I found that by plugging/blocking up the vacuum hoses to the valves (to permanently open the valves) stopped the noise, might be worth a try? This also increases sound volume between 2-4K revs, I guess the valves even when open are not fully open until 5k revs or so

If its not the valves then i think i know a place about 45 miles from you that should be able to open and repair if required. Pm me and i will give you the details if you need them.

It does indeed sound valve related so certainly repairable, you should be able to keep your kidney for now

Update - been in garage all morning and I should have took a picture. Basically the pin that holds the bottom of the valve arm has worn and thus when arm goes up or down (engaged) its not sealing properly and whole mechanism rattles like a bit%%. Unplugged the tubes and left on full sports mode, its going back in for the underneath to be tidied up as rust and looks poor, also found needed two new rears as well so ordered them.

Exhausts are ok, those stupid valves. At least now it howls and annoys the village again :)

Thanks for the updates.

Now back to trying to work out why Alarm says it has failed !!!! grrr
