I presume those are just excerpts from his book sewn together to make it seem even worse. The PC brigade might not like it but I thought it was entertaining. Folk will always pay to be entertained. 21000 complaints about his One Show comments; I wonder how many complaints if they sacked him? At least 2.1million? Journalists baying for his blood, no, they just think it'll be read by thousands as it's the hot topic of the week. It will all roll on and people will still love him. He's said stuff in the past that I thought a little insulting but I never complained, the tv has an 'off' button and no one's forced to read his book.

Doesn't excuse his belittling the deaths of millions of Polish soldiers.......wonder what society would say if he said it about British soldiers..........

It doesn't, I agree. It isn't shown in context and he does say that they 'may have made a few minor errors' which certainly belittles the holocaust. He's doing it to provoke a reaction, exercising his right to the freedom of speech by going too far. That's mine and your thought on the part which is most offensive, but some folk would be far more insulted by prior comments about gays, lesbians, cripples etc.; fact of the matter remains, it sells books, simples! How many times will they allow him to apologise and carry on?

Can't be bothered to read the link but I believe in free speech whereas most people these days do not.

Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak freely without censorship. The term freedom of expression is sometimes used synonymously, but includes any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used. In practice, the right to freedom of speech is not absolute in any country and the right is commonly subject to limitations, such as on libel, slander, obscenity, incitement to commit a crime, etc.

The right to freedom of expression is recognized as a human right under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognized in international human rights law in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). Article 19 of the ICCPR states that "[e]veryone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference" and "everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice". Article 19 goes on to say that the exercise of these rights carries "special duties and responsibilities" and may "therefore be subject to certain restrictions" when necessary "[f]or respect of the rights or reputation of others" or "[f]or the protection of national security or of public order (order public), or of public health or morals".[1][2]

But there are always caveats.......see no 19......and whether said in jest or taking what you say as fact......hard to justify .

I shouldn't think he's that bothered Dem , in fact i'd go as far as to say it might even be deliberately stoked so they terminate his contract , he'll clap his hands , take the top gear name with him , (i believe its his ) and go and work independantly for sky or whatever , he's already proved top gear is the most popular re-run on Dave , how many years have they continually shown series after series after series , people luv it

regards loz

I dont always agree with what he says, but I will always defend his right to say it. Whats the old expression, "sticks and stones.......etc." I'm really starting to think the British sense of humour is no laughing matter.

You (and I mean you in a general sense) see how you get on if you start to extol the virtues of religious extremism.
You (and I mean you in a general sense) see how you get on if you start to reveal secrets our governments would rather remain buried.
You (and I mean you in a general sense) see how you get on if you start to question the cornerstones of democracy and capitalism.

Freedom of speech my @rse, it doesn't exist, indeed it simply can't within a society that by nature moves only as directed by common consent.
