Right well its home - not taken any photos yet but will do.

I have to admit though, I've forgotten how god awful taht gearbox is when you hit heavy traffic!

Any tips for a smooth drive in traffic? So far i've mastered... "hang back and wait until you can run along smoothly"

Also another thing I've noticed is when setting off slowly there is a few odd noises coming from the rear end - I assume gearbox / clutch related? Nothing worrying, just "creaking"?

Depending on mileage , i shouldn't worry too much about the slight clunking at the rear , more than likely just the gearbox early cars are known for this , and mines never had any probs , best about the early cars is that the gearbox set up is slightly more aggressive , and once mastered is loads of fun , if the clunking gets worse and you get noticable shunt worth having it looked at , and find out if your car has the latest software updates

Re the slow driving in traffic , the gear change parameters can be reset , what you have suggested already is to hang back a little and then try and coast in 2nd for as long as you can , then actually change down yourself rather than letting it do it for you , anticipation will become 2nd nature after a short while

Is 04 still classed as the earlier models? Its an odd noise - its sort of a creaking noise as you pull away - once moving its gone, and only if you pull away slowly/normally.

Might just be over cautious but it does seem odd.

No, 04 model year had a number of upgrades over the 2002 model year.....I sure someone will know exactly what the upgrades where but sure the CC came in for some changes.

Not a shrill noise..?!......if creaking, could be rears bushes........

I'm with P on that one. Dead easy check is to find yourself a speed bump. If it creaks as the suspension compresses, then look at your bushes. If it creaks at the front, possibly the sway bar.
