Gotta love them

We hear so much about how low / poor batteries can stop these cars working, try this one:

Started up this morning, very low voltage gauge (what*eveah*), but also alternator warning light was on.

Car behaved absolutely fine. No errors, no issues starting, no odd behaviour. Voltage crawled up a bit, but light stayed on.

Going to give it a blast to Chelmsford tonight (assuming it starts) so hopefully that's clear it.

Still Cman, if it persists get checked out....stitch in time and all that

Oh couldn't agree more, Frank. Watchful waiting for now. If it's still playing silly sods at the weekend, I'll get a proper meter on it, see what that shows. I have my doubts about the battery anyway, but I'm sure 2x 5 miles trips a day, and an extra 2 x 2 miles last night did not do the best for it :)

Its the alternator light too......could all be stemming from that, both my battery failures have been at my front door

Yes indeed. Of course the light might be a loose connection:)

It's all good fun. Mrs Catman will let me use her 147 if ask her very nicely :)

Alternator's on these cars are pretty darn robust from what I read. NipponDenso and all that.

The gauges are for guidance only. My voltage gauge is all over the place - anything from 11 to 14 showing regardless of how much load I'm putting through it. I'm sure somebody posted that the terminals on the back of the cluster come loose and can be tightened. Another job for a sunny day outside I think.

Yep. I know mine is laughable. I've just not seen it that low, nor had the warning light on.

Conveniently I understand that Klive is getting his rebuilt at the moment...

We shall see :)

Hmm... What condition is your auxiliary belt in Catman? Cold and damp mornings will show up more problems.

Seems to have been an aftermarket installation of character.

She was fine when I picked hep up from the station, and has been fine all night. Blasted to Chelmsford for class and back :)

Aux belt was replaced in October, Newton. Should be fine.
