It's been for sale on Enrico's site for a couple of years it's a Bi Turbo/Ghibli Hybrid spyder with alternative body work. I think the factory only made two or three.

Also showing a 4.7 Ghibli Spyder at £230K!!! Surely not? Would have put it between £100K and £120K max for a low mileage left-hooker, and even then it would need to be mint?

Seems to me some wierd manipulation of the classic Maserati market is taking place at the moment , in the height or depths of recession there are certainly some outragous prices being asked for what are not particuarly special cars in my view , http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C249603 being a prime example , and obviously the one at the top of the page , looking through most of the classified sites one could be forgiven into thinking the recession was long gone

Been happening for quite some time Loz...
Global stock markets have been shaky, languishing property prices,
commodity prices high, very little real rate of return on cash investments,
so those with money have been looking at alternatives...
high end classic cars being one sector in favour.

Don't think Maserati made it Adam.......

That's correct. It was shown in 1992 at the Turin motor show and again in '93 with some cosmetic revisions (Ferrari rear lights rather than Audi). It was built by OPAC using the chassis from the Maserati Spyder and the engine from a Shamal. De Tomaso hated it and tried to stop it being shown. I believe three were made?

The Shamal itself had its chassis based on the Spyder, so I stick to my understanding that the OPAC is a rebodied Shamal ,)

gosh- that's all fascinating.

I had seen this before on Enrico's pages but even as a curiosity, the cost seems high- but then like the QP s2 it's fairly unique I suppose...

I wonder who they were trying to impress with that alternative look; probably an attempt to push into more mainstream markets...?

I have been looking at an early Ghibli lately and the prices vary wildly depending on who is selling the cars, does not seem any logic to the prices at the moment......

yes, it curious- I think common sense has to come into it;

How much history is there?

Quite "how old" i.e. what era is it?- distributor ignition/early diffs/brakes... that kind of thing...

are you considering adding to your stable, Andrew?

I'm always thinking about a FIAT Coupe. I had a couple, years ago, and you can get 'em for a grand now...
