Is anyone running a GTS (or even a Stradale) as a daily?

I mean really running one as a daily driver, 8-10k miles a year, all weather and if so...what is the ballpark annual cost to keep it tip-tip?

I thought I was coming to a point where I was about to be able to close in on moment when I take the plunge, then read something yesterday and I have proper freaked out at running cost surprises again.

I did for the first three years I had mine, doing nearly 30,000 miles over that period, albeit it was not my family car so it was mainly weekday use for me with school drop/pick up. Now after another seven years with the miles nearly on 60,000 I wish I had used it less early on as I just can't bring myself to sell it even though I've tried looking at a huge range of replacements.

I am running a 2016 Granturismo Sport as a daily. (Have been running Granturismo's as DDs in various guises for 8 years now)

With the 2016- I've had it for 10 months now and my expenses were as follows:

  • Front suspension bushings and arms (common fault and not too expensive)
  • Alarm issue where it would go off every time I unlocked the car and would not shut up - eventually had to pull the thing out.
  • 4 Pirelli tires
  • Sagging headliner (extreme heat here in Kuwait so quite common)

It helps that it costs around £ 20 to fill with 98 ron petrol here :p

It's a solid car that can be used as a DD as much as any car can.

I’d suggest a GT Sport is a more useable daily for most of us than a Stradale. It depends on your locality and traffic, roads etc really.

I've got a GT Sport that is my everyday car - but not used daily - and used for every day duties all year around (inc. fun drives). I've just hit 25,000 miles and the car is 4 years old and other than fuel and servicing, I have had no issues or additional costs to date (other than a drivers side seat switch that my son kicked off).

It may help if you let people know what running costs freaked you out and was it someone on here?
Depending who it was we can a) arrange a beating, b) agree with, c) bury under the patio, d) get Wattie to abuse them in whatever way he sees fit, e) get MarkMas to give them a spelling lesson and history of factually incorrect statements.

Thanks folks...this is helping a bit! What are the options on brakes? I am more than capable of changing discs and pads, however in terms of parts availability, I presume there isn't much of an option with these cars? The carbon-ceramics on a Strad at £££k a side literally scare me. Has anyone had to replace them on here? I was thinking that in the event that a car was a keeper, there are options on a bespoke setup with a new caliper carrier and then bells so you can find a bit more flexibility on calipers and discs.

I forget exactly where it was but I think Pistonheads on their Maserati forum. 4 years and £16k of servicing costs alone and then a long list of 'incidentals'

If the 16k includes all the other work he listed I am not surprised 8 tyres is a nice sum for a start and seems high. Cam covers, abs and rear brakes must be getting close to 3k and if they had someone change a battery for them I can see why they spent 16k.
If you follow the advice of a good indy they can tell you what is and isn't necessary. For example. Why change lamda sensors when they are working fine!

Well over the ten years I have had mine it has cost me £2k pa for servicing and repairs. GTS Auto so no clutch to replace. No problem with that for the sort of car it is.

Well that plain BS. Even if he had 3 main dealer services (and 2 were the big ones) he wouldn't have spent more than £8000. Add in tyres, discs, pads and some other niggles, he MAY have spent an extra £8000 in 4 years but I doubt it.

Speak to people who run them. Yes they are not cheap but neither are they unreliable or bottomless pits if yo buy a good one.

There are options for brake discs, we have developed some aftermarket discs which are cheaper than OEM and can have the rotors replaced alone, so even cheaper when the rotors are worn. See here https://www.sportsmaserati.co.uk/index.php?threads/sm-gts-brakes.28129/post-754077

For the Stradale, we are looking at developing discs which are dimensionally the same in steel, which may be of interest for your sort of situation.

Running a Mas can be both a pleasure and a pain.
Service cost will fluctuate depending on who you use. I suspect a MD will be double the cost of most specialist.
Parts are a strange one, OK not a GT, but the PAS cooler for the GS has gone from c£250 to over £1300 in 4 years. Wishbones and brakes did the same.
Depreciation is going to be another big hit as >50k will push anything other than the best maintained cars into the mid teens; this will only be exasperated by the ending of petrol engine production and restrictions.

But you only live once.

Agreed. I pay the same incl. tax, insurance and annual servicing. Anything above that is enhancements. Will have spent 5k on top this year with brake refurb, hoses, hydrodipping the interior, paint and ceramics, sports cats, Stindigs paddles, Ultimate pedals, carplay. My choice though.....don't tell the missus!

Absolutely agree and well within what I feel is acceptable for a car with some performance too...spent that on my Audi long enough. I am not very good with leaving the car in the garage so if i have it...it get used :D

Yup, same experience. Mine is used daily in any weather, as was my last one. Get the subframes protected and they are as reliable as anything.

Quite a lot of people are running QPs as daily drivers. Isn't that basically the same thing but with 4 proper seats, decent ground clearance, and gentlemanly elegance?

4.5 I would say. I had a Welsh ex army midget sat in the middle seat of mine at Le Mans.
