Iphone mount in GTS

Given how rubbish I keep reading the GPS is, I figured I'd rely more on Google Maps nav when needed in the GTS. Never bothered with an iphone mount in previous cars, but seems like I will need one.

What works? Looks like there is loads of rubbish around.

I use a similar device to Conaero in all my cars and it works a treat, I also have a spare one for when I travel so I can use it in hire cars.

Make sure you remove it when your car has an MOT, I put my RRS in for its first MOT and when I checked on the DVLA site it had failed its first test!

Reason(s) for failure
Windscreen has a sticker or other obstruction encroaching into the swept area by more than 40mm outside zone 'A' (8.3.1e)

I wondered why the holder was on the passenger seat when I picked up the car, the dealer never mentioned it had failed the first test......

I now use this as well: - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0109JIQ0W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Lads come on use your brains you don't need to stick the metal strip to your phone, you can stick it to the inside of the case and that way it doesn't damage or gunk up your phone.

It works brilliantly on my 7+ and I can get it high enough so all the buttons are visible on the LCD screen.

As for with my 911, it's not so good as the air vents have a thick perimeter around them so the four prongs don't get a good grasp onto the air vent.

BTW I use the passenger side vent of the centre console as I like to have fresh air in my face, whereas my wife doesn't, so jobs a good'un!

As for the CD Mount, well after all the aggro I had getting it out of the 911 CD and it not fitting the QP I'm left wondering whether I should do some gentle filing to get it to fit!

With the iClever and all the mag mounts, its best if you set it up on the windscreen so it the bottom of the phone rests on the dash then if you were to hit a pothole and it was to shake off, it just flops forward and not fall and hit the gear stick as it does on my Audi.

Thanks all - the vent magnet version was discounted to £5 on amazon so I bought that AND the cdslotmount for the princely sum of £15.

Talk about splashing out...

I really don't understand this whole 'phone case' thing. When they make the phone in the factory, they don't leave all the electronics hanging out, they enclose it in a CASE, and then you buy the whole thing - electronics enclosed in a case. But then, for some reason, 90% of people go and buy ANOTHER case, and put the first case inside the second case. And, yes, I have heard people say that it protects the phone, so it is in good condition for reselling - do you keep the delivery plastic on your sofa too?

Heh. I have a very thin leather slip case. Mostly to reduce the chances of it breaking if / when I drop it. Otherwise I agree!

Hi Mark, As C says, the iPhone case protects the edges in case you drop it and as I have dropped the 7+ 4 times and finally smashed the screen to pieces, I always use a case on the phone now to protect it from damage, it's not so much the cost but the agro getting the screen replaced, last time I spent 5 hours hovering around Brum, whilst apple fixed it at as cost of £139
