Intermittent Reversing Camera Issue

I am getting an intermittent issue with the reversing camera on the Ghibli. Maybe 50% of the time now, I’m just getting a black screen with the warning message at the top. Other 50% of the time it works perfectly well. Any ideas?

Broken connection or failing camera I would guess

This is annoying me now but I can see cameras advertised for only about £60, so probably worth swapping it to see if it resolves the issue. Am I as well going for a like for like one or is an aftermarket one any better?

Well people complain about the OWM ones not being 4k or whatever, but personally I'd stick with it, as you know it should work. BUT if there's a broken connection between the boot lid and the car, it's not going to improve things....

Yeah, I’m a bit unsure on it.

It seems to make its mind up as to whether it is going to work each time you start the car. So if it works when I set off, it will work no matter how many times I reverse on that journey. Equally, if I get in and it doesn’t work, it will never work until the car has been locked and I go back to it again - and even then only 50% chance.

Almost makes me think it is some sort of deeper technical issue, rather than just a loose connection.

That’s great. Did you generally replace with a particular brand or have all got the same connections?

It’s oem (or check the FCA parts bin models such as Chrysler) as it fits in a particular sized hole and the connector is non standard (typical) there are 2 types in the Ghib/Lev/QP6 range

It was £160 ish from memory

Was having a quick look at this last night. Can you access everything you need just by unscrewing from the outside or do you need to remove all the lining from the inside of the boot lid as well?

I’ll be honest I can’t remember. I would remove the lid carpet panel, it should then be fairly obvious

Yeah, will have to have a look at the weekend as it is no longer intermittent! **** visibility as well, which I think is worse knowing that you used to have a camera.

Fitted in the same hole and the cable connector correct yes? Can you post the eBay link please.

Only noticed now that there seems to be a little space around it. Was concentrating on putting the boot back together, so not sure if I could have wiggled it a bit better. Will be careful with pressure washer etc.
