Insurance parts

After an eight month search, a GS is headed my way…too late for the Ace Cafe meet but in time for Le Mans. Actually can't believe its coming…and the maddening dullness of sorting insurance and garages is helping keep the excitement at bay. Which brings me to the point...

Just been made aware of something regarding insurance that you may all know but I didn't, so thought worth sharing. A pleasant chap at Admiral just explained that, should I park the car in a tree one day, they would not use Maserati parts in the resulting repair (it being cheaper to use pattern parts). Would this mess with the value of the car? A GS guru tells me not to worry, as there are no 'non Maserati' bits that would relevant (and some internal components were sourced from Alfa etc anyhow). It still bothers me though…as does the idea that I would not be able to specify where repairs were done.

So, should I:

1. Cheer up, take the £500 option and stay away from trees
2. Pay double that with a 'specialist' and…stay away from trees.

Stay away from trees, but I really doubt that there are many pattern parts out there :)

I suppose if you it the tree nose first you've got the low speed fan resistor. They can get that from an Alfa for £50, then there's the pollen filter, wipers. Hit it *really* hard and I guess you might end up with an aircon system from Alfa / Lancia but I rather doubt repair would be useful :)

Struggling to think of anything if you went in sideways or backwards, apart from brakes, discs and pads. Which would be Maserati only unless you're 'in the know' and use the F550s
