From what I have seen this is exactly what I have been waiting for .... an "affordable" new Maserati with a comprehensive warranty that I could drive everyday.

Although I say that with some caveats.

Like some I need to see it in the flesh, and am gutted by the totally uninspiring engine bay ;) .... Part of the enjoyment of my QP was those lovely red rocker covers .........

I think the back end also looks uninspiring .... The rear of my QP was gorgeous and you can't help thinking that this is what many see as they hear you pass ;)

Having said that the new QP rear end is equally anonymous if you know what i mean. Bit of a cop out I think.

When I sold my QP (2004 car) I part exchanged it for a new Mercedes CLS in white. A stunning car, and very few and far between ...... Cost £50k as I simply could not access a 4 door Maserati new with the related warranty. The QP had to go when, 3 months after spending £6,000 on repairs and servicing it needed a new air conditioning unit etc nd at £3k I couldn't bring myself to spend the money.......

I think I am the sort of person the Ghibi is aimed at I.e. someone that is able to stretch to £55k on a car to use everyday, but cannot quite honestly afford the uncertainties of servicing costs beyond say £1500 per annum.....

I am really excited that I have found the replacement for the Merc next year and will keep you posted ....

I enjoyed the article in this months EVO .....

What are people's thoughts on a servicing budget for a car covering 14000 per annum ?

Marc
PS

That engine bay might even sway me to look the bloody diesel if the clips on YouTube really represent the sound of the diesel ..... Although my preference has to be the petrol. RWD for me as cannot stretch to AWD ....

Agreed - I'm even considering trading in my GTS. Saw the advert on YouTube for the Light Blue car and it looked great, then I got the price list from DL yesterday:

275hp Diesel £48,830
330hp V6 £52,275
410hp V6 £63,415

For me the big issue will be spec'ing the car to a suitable standard - I had a play on the configuration website and whilst the prices aren't available, I think you'll easily add £10-£15k of options. Also, servicing intervals unknown ATM.

Either way, I think it looks great and will certainly be itching for a test drive.

It had a good look round the Ghibli at both Goodwood and Graypaul and am seriously considering one a my first Maserati. My biggest concern is whether it will fit in the garage (its over 76" wide).

Very good point - Just checked the sizes

Length 4971 mm. GTS. 4881mm
Width (with mirrors) 2100 mm. GTS. 2056mm
Width (without side mirrors) 1945mm. GTS. 1915mm

I can only just fit my GTS in the garage (width) and have to fold the mirrors in - didn't realise the Ghibli was even wider and longer.....The size of my GTS is still a pain to me for everyday parking - This is going to be worse (although at least it should be easier to maneuver without the clunky MC Shift)!

Bear in mid that the doors of the Ghibli are much shorter than the GT so should help with getting in and out in tight garage spaces

£7-8k should do it having seen the option prices but that it is still pretty high.

Hi Bob

Do you mean high as in expensive, or high as in your estimate of what you might be able to get for your money? Hopefully the latter ;)

I feel that the standard spec is low so the overall cost for the car is high viz a viz things like 535d. Thing is for those of us in QPs and GranTurismos then we are used to memory seats, wheels bigger than 18", gear shift paddles, skyhook, heated seats, metallic etc. Maybe I am being unreasonable and will change my mind when I see the car but, personally, I would struggle to walk away from a lovely V8 at this stage.

That is completely understandable.

Can't beat a V8, having had the QP, supercharged RRS, E55 Merc, and 66 Mustang ... You are talking to the converted ... However V6 these days are amazing and I am open minded, especially if it means a new car or not.

Memory seats d nothing for me. It's just me in the car.

Skyhook. Not interested.

Metallic, not interested .... Blanco for me....

Although I am a sucker for good wheels as all my cars have shown including the QP.......

So I guess we're all different....

Interestinly when Harry Metcalf tested the car he said he never liked Skyhook on his other Maseratis but it works really well on the Ghibli with the changes they have made.

I think ou are right on the white it does look good...Also wheels go up to 21 inch although the 20 inch that seem to be on most of the pictures seems to look the best.

That's typical Metcalfe. He was very complimentary of the skyhook on his 4.2 GranTurismo - remember he owned the car twice - but then started criticising it once he was bored with his 4.7 after he started his Lamborghini fetish. There were plenty of other positive reviews of the GranTurismo in Evo but what you get really depends on who the road tester is which reiterates that you have to drive cars yourself and make your own decision. Remember there are practically no bad cars on sale today, especially at higher price points.

Very rare for any car maker to make a truly bad car these days...No eccuse for it...
