I read "Idiot Proof Reader" as "Idiot Proof" Reader.
Or scanner if I've read that correctly.
I could have completely misread that though.

OK!

So the problem is that most of the readers out there will only do the basic OBDII codes relating to the engine management. Everything gets quite spendy.

A few possibilities:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Systems-Special-Functions-Including-Throttle/dp/B06XQFCL42
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Autel-Bluetooth-Scanner-Systems-Diagnoses/dp/B07QCT1PC5
and the yet to be released EasyMas which is being developed with input from the most august forum owner and Sports Italia.

I guess I'd go with the Autel unless I wanted to dump £500+ but I have no idea how idiot proof they are, nor more than apocryphal reports that they manage the functionality they claim.

Oh it'll read Engine codes. And you can get them cheaper. Won't do anything else, though

Hi,
I've got a 2015 Grancabrio which has pinged an amber EML light on the way home from work. I've got a simple OBD2 reader at home which I use for my daily driver but I see that the plug is different on the Mas ? It is a 16 PIN straight plug/socket but OBD2 is not rectangle shaped, please could you tell me, do I need a specific adapter for my car, to enable me to connect up an OBD2 ?

Most OBD female plugs are rectangular but tapered male OBD plug fits fine

OP - Foxwell NT520 with Maserati module is a good budget OBD starter unit.

Thanks I best just try and fit it, I saw the plug next to the fuse box under the steering wheel and instantly thought it was the wrong shape. I'll have a go tomorrow.
Cheers
