2nd one has been for sale for around 2 years I think......so thats a worry

3rd one again looks nice...But for me it's the first one.......very yummy especially as it's on the last model alloys.

The first one is my fave, it does look rather mint, however, i dont know if i would be put off buying one after the one Fifth Gear bought which they were told was one of the best for sale was a total dog.

Adam, what do you drive at the moment? What specifically are you looking for and what budget have we got to play with for your impending replacement?

If your sig at the bottom of your posts is up to date then I think you'll be quoted about as much insure an Esprit as you would to buy it! That said I got insured on a 2.8 XR4x4 when I was 18 for £1,000... but that was 15 years ago.

dont drive anything yet but if you have this months Classic and sports car magazine turn to page 235 and the car is situated in the top left corner, it is white, that is what i would like for my first set of wheels., bargain price.

Having been through this in the past few years with my two sons i would very much advise to start getting some quotes now , you'll find its the price of insurance which will dictate what car you can buy at your age, my youngest has been driving 3 years now and just had a quote for an 05 MX5 £2100 fully comp he's just coming up to 21 and got 2 years no claims , but its his age against him , ironically if he lived with his girlfriend and put her on it , she's a year younger it would be £460 cheaper , now hows that work or figure ,

Adam...needs to be group 1.......put your Mum on it...( she who wears the trousers on behalf of both males in the house...;)...:)...)...then take an advanced drivers course, max out the vol access....keep it in an alarmed garage......bobs your uncle....and no need for an expensive sex change op!!

My younger sons first car was a peugeot 106 P reg only 18k miles previously owned from new by a disabled old lady , it only ever went out twice a week , once to the shops and then to the garage for yet another service , it had a stack of bills god knows what for ,thinkthey made half of it up , any way his first solo insurance when he was 18 and had passed his test , done his pass plus and had been driving a year on my insurance was £1114.00 with the co-op 2nd year he moved to direct line at £957 ,i bought him another car last year CAT D 55 plate polo 1.4 and his insurance went up to £ 1180.00 predominately due to its value being £5500 , IF he puts his girlfriend on it aswell and say she lives at the same address it will go back down under the £1000 mark , think he will get further reductions when he actually reaches 21 and then 25 ,

Providing he continues to be accident free and his No Claims builds up he should be well on his way to cheaper insurance , i do feel sorry for the youngsters nowdays , when i was younger and had some high end cars insurance was always manageable price wise , He's a student at Cambridge half the time ,the rest of the time he works for a high street opticians continuing hs training on £18K a year and he finds it difficult , to cope running his car and living with just the occasional dipping into his dad pocket ,

Adam Keep your sights on something in group one , i know its hard especially being a potential petrol head , but im sure you can enhance it with some fuury dice or something
im not taking the pee , but you get my drift , be very careful about modding it without notifying the insurance company , they are very hot on that now and it will make you null and void should something distastrous happens

Weirdly I've found that over a 15 year period my insurance has always been around a grand a year (on single cars) - taking into account that as I got older and generated more NCB etc, any discount was cancelled out as I also bought lairyer cars attracting a higher premium.
I wonder whether the yoof of today will experience something similiar?

I think your close to the mark there Dan , as to how things are going , what you start off at seems to stick , over the last 10 years my premiums stayed around the 2-3 hundred pound mark no matter what cars i had , most were 1 /2 years old then i got the first masser, and ithe policy shot up from £380 fully comp for the RX8 group 20 to £540 for the group 20 masser i suspected the extra due to the masser having a higher value , now its stayed around the £520 mark for the 3rd year running

I have considered the Lupo/Arosa, 50mpg, i bet it would do about 550 miles between fill ups, that is cheap motoring.

Thanks for the advice and tips Loz, insurance like you say is a pain these days, my dad was lucky when he was around, 1st car ford escort, 2nd car ford escort Harrier edition, this was smart.
