How to test for clutch wear?

Hello!

New to the forum. Been lurking for sometime but as I am. Ow actively in the market for a Maserati to buy (will be my first) I thought it was time to join and get myself involved.

I am presently selling my Mercedes C63 AMG (facelift model) and am in the market for a GTS MC Shift.

Budget is around 40k and was hoping to get one that has just had its clutch replaced and recently serviced.

My question is this. When the MC model goes in for a proper service at Maserati or a amaserati specialist does the clutch always get checked regardless of service and a clutch wear report created?

I shall soon start viewing cars in the next few weeks and would like to know should dealers/owners have evidence of the state the clutch is in? If no evidence available how do I go about getting one? Call place it was last serviced? Will they keep a record? And how much would I be looking at for clutch and potential fly wheel replacement through a specialist? I'm based in west London? Who are the best guys to see for looking after a Maser around here that can service and repair for fair price?

Thanks in advance!

Mark

The amount of wear is gathered from the SD3 diagnostic computer that the MD will use to check for error codes etc. You can get a print out of this and other records when you get a service.

The SD3 should download all the history onto the MD computer for records, but this belongs to the dealer and some can be arsy about sharing it.

Welcome Mark, good choice!

Yes when the car is in for service if they are worth their salt they will produce a clutch wear reading as well as scan all ECU's for codes. The clutch wear reading is about as accurate as Nostradamus :D The proof is in the drive and seeing a receipt for recent clutch. Check engine number and also proof of variators being done if the engine number was in the batch affected. Not many specialists in West London but there are lots in Kent like Giallo and AV engineering (Voicey is really helpful). Let me know if you need any more info.

A clutch is £3000 give or take to replace. Not all dealers do it as a matter of course but some do. Good luck with your search.

This is good to know. Where is this list of batches affected and how would I check the car's build / engine number?

Engine number should be on the paperwork.
