How did he do this? Air Intake amazing sound (4200)

How about taking the existing air filter out of the air box, leaving the box in place, then take a section of pipe out in the middle of the air pipe below the MAF Sensor and the throttle box. The end towards the engine top then has such as the K&N cone installed. You would still get airflow direct from the Airbox and air scoop, with an open end of pipe directing the flow towards the cone. The pipe from the airbox could still get water potentially coming through it, unless additional drain holes were drilled, but the amount of water ejected from the open pipe end should simply splash around as it's not directly connected to the air intake. The only drawback I can see is, that there would be a reduced ram air effect from the front spolier, if that's what the engine actually needs.
I'm with Fossy on this one.

I'll try and make a sketch and post what I mean, or photographs with arrows if I can manage it.

Yes looks like no MAF sensor with the Trofeo, the ECU on the Trofeo is most likely mapped on throttle angle only, which is quite normal.
You of course will need to keep the MAF unless you want to replace the ECU..!
I've a PDF listing the Trofeo bits, you know how you gather such stuff!

Gathering the bits would be easy I would have thought, if potentially somewhat Heath Robinson to begin with. At the end of the day they're are just bits of plastic to take air from hole A to hole B.

After that it depends on what we want this mod to do? Is it simply to remove the risk of Hydrolock or as per the original post, is it to change the sound of the engine?

My view is that is must solve the hydrolock issue, if it creates a better sound then that's a bonus.

Why don't You use BMC cone filter to stock housing, it's simple P&P job and it change sound compared to stock paper filter. I have this done in my car, with crossflow xpipe and larini valved mufflers.

With hydrolock, most of companies that makes filters makes also hydro shields on them :

From my reading, a hydroshield will not stop hydrolocking if the air filter in any way gets submerged in water. It only stops rain water from entering which is not the main issue here.

From my reading in air intake bypass valves may not work.

Re Hodroyds posting

Great if we could get confirmation from Miles on how effective this was and if the engine management system reacted kindly to the change

Yes it would be good if there was an easy way to eliminate this risk. We don't have many floods, in fact we specialise in droughts, but the thought of just hitting some casual water at speed and it taking out the engine is way too scary to ignore

As the rain grows with intensity, just wondering if there were further thoughts on this?

Fortunately I was not in the 4200, but the big Jeep tonight and hit a flood just around a bend and it completely covered the car, the Jeep was fine, but I thought crikey what if I had been in the Maser, perish the thought..!!
I am going to have a serious look at this, but not take the Maser out in heavy rain.
