This weekend saw the running of the annual Passion fro Speed historic racing festival at Zwartkops Raceway outside Pretoria. This event usually attracts some international entrants from Europe and the UK and it's worth attending. It's a wonderfully informal atmosphere with unlimited access to the pits and cars, and pretty much any part of the track.
There is a variety of events, including an "Extreme Cars" thing for highly modified modern stuff like Lambos and McLarens for guys with big wallets, small c0cks and even less talent. The smallest of c0cks arrive with their rigs, which is just laughable and an obscenely crass display of wealth for..........a club event! WTF?!? I must admit that the sound of those V10 Lambos is glorious, though.
One of the main attractions is the Production V8s with a roll call of winged American Wonders - how a '57 Chev Bel Air manages to get around the track this quickly defies physics and it's thoroughly entertaining. Underneath, of course, it's all very expensive trick stuff and 600hp crate motors.
