Thanks Geoff, thats enough to give me a basic idea. Its actually less than I expected and for the right car I can see the attraction in importing a car from the UK.

My pleasure. In case you aren't aware there are only certain cars that can be imported privately. If you search RAWS on the Oz Govt website and look at the SEVS register you will see the list. Of course as an expat you can bring back pretty much anything provided you have owned and used it forthe 12 months preceding your return

Yeah I have been looking at cars here and keeping in the back of my mind the small chance that we might decide to return to Oz in the future and want to take something back with us. Some cars, say a 911TT, represent big savings over Oz prices where as Gransports are priced much more closely to those in Oz all costs considered. One year old M5's are a bargain!

Yes the gap has narrowed on 4200/Gransport and Ferrari 360. 18 months ago you could save close to 30,000 by importing but so many have now been brought in the saving is closer to 10,000. It would be a DB9 if I was bringing something back. Porsches are nice but so many of them they don't warrant a sideways look anymore. Maserati on the other hand always turns heads.

Astons are certainly rare in Oz, I did briefly consider one but found the models I really liked were only 2 seaters so they were scratched off the list early. A Maser in Oz is a very rare site, in fact only seen at dealers whether those selling cars or drugs :)

I don't mind as it it is all Gov't regulation. Import Duty is+ 5% of Purchas Price(PP) ,GST + 10 % of PP and Freight ,Shipping Custom Clearance AIQS Dock fees etc A$2639 , then you have Compliance costs to ADR that needs to be done by a RAWS dealer and this can very . I have a agent for A$10k. Then it is the usual Roadworthy and Registration (and State Stamp duty). In other words about A$20-22k approx on t of car purchase.
Still worth it in my opinion V's what is available in Aus.Particularily if you find the right car colour ,interior combination .

Two weeks Robert, bet it's unbearable!

Hi Richard, yes it is starting to drag! Parkline Motors have given it a big rap. When they drove it after clearing AQIS they knew immediately that it had a new clutch. I will send you a email when finished. An interesting fact is that there were 7 other cars that came in on the same boat. 2 Maseratis and 5 360's. Also I know of at least another GS arriving on the 18th!

Thanks for the info Robert. Those costs are a lot less than I expected and seem to be what I was advised it would cost me to bring in a car that I have owned in the UK for 12+ mths. Sounds like your car is close now and there have been no hiccups, good luck wading through the final steps of the process

Cheers

Robert,
If you click on the "Go Advanced" tab whilst writing a thread reply, it will bring up a "word" like heading complete with an attachment tab, hit that and you will be able to upload pictures.

My ex car has been on it travels.

It's a great example, if you need to know anything about it, just ask.

Don't worry Matt,

We will look after it for you!! So now I actually will get to see your old car... what a small world...
