Hi

It's only been 8 years since I last posted. At the time I was on a hunt for a QP. However my wife got pregnant (twice), we moved house twice, changed job 3 times and had 10 cars in the intervening period.

With the kids have grown up (a bit!) and life a bit more settled the "lockwood" has got me searching for a Maserati again!!

Might be tempted by a QP but would love a GT. I have trimmed down my car collection to 3 (A Q7, Jag XF and Merc W221 S Class) so I have one space on the drive to fill!

Blimey, that is some pause, but Maserati has a habit of staying there, under the surface, nagging at you.

The sensible buy at the moment are the GranTurismo I would say, although a 4.7GTS QP is a lovely car and GranSports are stupidly cheap at the moment and will rise again.

I suppose its down to budget but would try and get £30k together and buy a GT4.7 Sport. Pound for Pound its the car that will give you the least agro and will hold its value the best. If that is too much then you are looking at £27k for GTS MC Shift which are brilliant too or £20k for a descent QP 4.7 GTS.

Either way you need to have them all inspected.

Rust in the front subframe is the killer, 2010 onwards on one that has had its variator cam caps modified and check front bushes too, AC pump bearings rattle when engaged and cam cover leaks. The rest is all the normal brakes, tyres, condition etc.

Now don't go all quite on us again for another 8 years which I anticipate won't happen if you stay away from the wife if you get me ;)

I have been keeping half an eye on Maserati prices but I was surprised to see how much prices have dropped! There is a locally advertised QP for £5k. I have learnt the hard way over the years that buying the cheapest car on the market is usually a false economy but nonetheless a very cheap car and way into the brand!
