Hello all,

Just thought I should introduce myself here after lurking for a while and learning from all you experienced hands :)

My name is Ian and as my topic suggests I am based in Sweden, Gothenburg to be accurate. However I am English and from London, I just work in "sunny" Sweden. About 18 months ago my father and I bought a 2001 3200gt Manual and since then we have had a lot of fun together.

Up until today the at has been flawless, just a new battery and clutch as well as scheduled servicing. Before we bought we looked at a few cars and did our homework and were lucky enough to seem to find a cared for example with the vital work done.

During the summer months the car is with me in Sweden and I use it as a daily driver and last year it never missed a beat. I have also had the chance to have three cross continent blasts from Calais to Sweden and back, really trying the gym capabilities of the car. I've also taken it on runs down to malmo and Copenhagen as well as over to Stockholm as well as many an evening blast up the empty coastal and forest roads of Sweden- a real privilege to get to drive on some empty smooth roads with just the moose to worry about!

Anyhow, just thought I would introduce myself at last- I'm looking forward to getting into this community properly and hopefully learning a lot from you all.

Cheers,

Ian

Just saw the glaring auto correct errors- trying the GT capabilities of the car, not "gym" capabilities. That would be difficult at best

welcome on board. Few years ago it was 0.7 euros Catman...I traveled in the 4200 mainly on the east side of Sweden. Took part in the Maserati meeting in a place named Bastad.

Welcome to the forum Ian, I'm also based in Sweden, the difference is I'm also Swedish by nationality. :)

I live in Jönköping - not too far from Gothenburg, I'm sure you know where it is - so give me a shout if you're ever in the vicinity and maybe we could meet up.

It must be ages since the fuel was at 0.7 EUR per litre, I think it must've been before I even acquired my driver's license back in '99 (inflation not taken into consideration). For the moment it's about 1.72 EUR per litre where I live.

Welcome.

While we are on the subject, I work in Sweden in a small town near to Norrkoping.
I have a car over here but when I was deciding what to buy I didn't want anything nice/exotic as I didn't know where I could get it serviced.

Hi All,

Thanks for the warm reception. In answer to your questions, when I filled up today at my local Shell, V Power or whatever they call it was 14.1 SEK per litre, which at current exchange rates works out at around £1.38 per litre or so, though when the pound is stronger, more like 15 krona to the pound, then obviously it is considerably cheaper. Either way, I don't notice the fuel being significantly different in cost to the UK, especially as I only do around 500-600 miles per month.

Outlaw- I know what you mean regarding servicing. My main aim was to get major work done at indies in the UK, with minor work done over here. I have found a couple of specialist garages around Gothenburg, though none who are specifically Maserati. Most are Ferrari and Porsche biased. The main one for me is Autoropa down in Malmo- I believe they have a couple of branches in the Stockholm vicinity, not too far from Norrkoping. Their reputation seems to be OK, its just that they are pricey, but this is Sweden so everything cost wise has to be expected to be high. I think we forget how lucky we are in the UK with the huge number of specialists we have, whatever marque you own. It really makes owning a performance/ exotic car that much easier.

Alecci- Yes lets meet up for a run one evening, say more towards midsummer so we can have some long evenings of daylight. Lets PM in a few weeks

And finally Conaero, the problem I have has been posed into 3200 forum, it is to do with the turbo and what I think is a loose or cracked pipe. There is an extra loud whoosh when the turbo is spooling up, going to have a decent poke around this evening.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

It must be fantastic having a Maserati over here the roads are so empty, well they are where I am. I only use my car for airport runs and if its a late night flight then very often there is only a handful of cars on the motorway.
