Heater dial illumination

Danny, see the pic in this thread of my old centre console. I have tried removing the bulbs from their location and they simply won't come out!

first thing i ever fixed on mine was the same bulbs, never figured out how they came out and ended up cracking one. probably in a rush as it was my first night of ownership. ended up instead fitting one of those flexible LED strips in there, never looked back.

you were right . they are cap less should just wiggle and pull out.

Actually I just had a thought (it was a while ago I did mine) , do the plastic bulb holders twist out from the rear ?

Yes they do. Long nose pliers on the back plastic, turn 90 degrees and it pops out.
