Headlight adjustment

I've not driven the new car in the dark but did for the first time the other night.

The headlights seem to be pointing very high and I was flashed by a few cars coming in the other direction. They are still self levelling when I start up but I'm guessing they need adjusting.

No doubt it's a dealer job especially as it's under warranty but views welcome on how easy it is to do myself.

Hi David, simple adjustment needed, if there was any failure of the levelling system they drop as a precaution. Assuming it is the same as the 4200 there will be two odd sized hex head adjusters (I recall them being 15mm) on the back of the lights, one is left-right the other up-down. Hopefully the GTS has a smaller access panel under the wing so by putting it on full lock you can access the flap, arm yourself with 1/4" drive sockets with an array of extension bars and you will find a solution that fits. I found a local industrial estate was ideal as I could park 20m from a large wall on a level area that was not too well lit up. Adjust them to a flat beam with a slight fall, it will take several goes to get them just so as tiny adjustments make fairly big changes.

I had mine set as at minimum so that they were ok for Europe, this used to just meet the MOT requirement, however this has changed I was told at the last one, they just need to not dazzle oncoming traffic.

Dave, I had the same thing with the GS...caused by doing donuts in a wet field in France at night with the lights on...basically the adjusters could not keep up with the madness and lost the plot.

First thing you have to do is lights on, remove the front headlight adjuster on the lower front and rear wishbones and move them manually to make sure the lights go up and down correctly. Think they are on the nearside.

If they work you then need to have your headlights adjusted which is via a flap in the front wheel arch covers (were on the GS). You adjust them manually.

Frank had the same issue on his GTS....again after mucking about in the field :)
