I would not go for black purely because it is the most popular colour. Want to be a bit different, your GS was different Matt, unusual combo so do the same on a GTS.

Would luv to Adam but as with buying anything second hand, you are at the mercy of what stock is out there.

Still kicking myself about Palmballs car, it was perfect but it was just that little bit too much for me. I have a budget and I am determined to stick to it, not because I cant afford it, its because of future depreciation.

Andrew's was nice, also had suede headlining which i liked to stroke quite a lot when i was in it. Speaking of Palmball not heard from him since he sold it.

Matt, we all have our limits.......but some of us have to stick to them....some of use don't.......;)......am also in the former self-imposed budgeting scenario......and a lot less too......stick to your guns, it will happen and you will savour every second of the hunt and the feel of the key of a GTS in your hand!

it seems to me that we can always find an exterior colour that we like but it is the interiors available that disappoint us when looking at the GT or GTS maybe we should investigate the cost of a new interior, that way we could get s better deal on a car with say a red interior and have it changed.....just a thought....don't think it would harm the resale value if it was done well

Indeed Andrew, but the problem is all the panels are colour coded, they can be sprayed I suppose and the seats and other leather (not PVC) parts re tailored.

You would be looking at £2k for a retrim of that level.

Matt no no no spraying of leather panels , not at this level its a pure no no , only course would be to have the panels taken off seats and all ,panels un stitched , and new diffrerent colour panels sewn in so no matching would be required , only the very best upholsterers to used

Don't like the colour combi but that is personal. The £55k just reflects the fact that it is a private sale. If a 58 plate GTS is £60k retail then it is £50k trade and the miles and colour combi will count against that car. Offer him £51k.

There is a 59 plate full auto 4.7 for sale for £63k privately on autotrader. That looks better value to me me, depending on your gearbox preference.

I wouldn't start messing with the interior - it's irreversible. Whilst you may end up with something you like IMHO a retrim would put potential buyers off further down the line. Matt - stick to your plan and hold out for the right car, or at least something more right than this one. As others, I love the exterior (would save on a wrap for a while at least) but think the blue interior is awful, especially as it extends to the steering wheel etc.

You're looking to minimise depreciation on this car so you need to buy the right car to start with.

I've looked into a reupholstering before and been advised it's not worth the money or hassle. The right car will appear by end of October at the latest. Exciting times Matt.

Thanks guys this is all good discussion. I am indeed sticking to my plan and budget which is xmas. This will only change if a gem of a car turns up.

Matt,

If you wait until your winter i.e. christmas you will be close to a sweet spot,,, maybe Mid feb or march might be better.. All supercars in the VED bands L&M (road tax) are moving very slowly at the moment in the UK. The average increase of 30% on insurance has not helped either.... more and more high end cars are sitting around on dealers forecourts looking for end buyers rather than just shipping around between themselves on the auction sites...

I think some super buys are on their way!!...

If main dealers are asking £60k for 58 plate MCs then they will trading at £50k. I've said before it's all how you buy if you want a bargain. November through January will be cheaper but March is too late as dealers will be bidding stock up by c£3k for April-June retail sales.

Yes, it appears another dip or at least a period of uncertianty/stagnation are on their way...good for picking up bargains...not so great otherwise.....I see the money burning a hole....but it will happen.

Bang on BB, thats how I see it.

Ok, here is one for you then, so say I get the GTS for £52k at xmas, hold it for 18 months, where do you see it value, based on a spring/early summer sale in 2013. The later GS's will still be £25k I recon with the GTS at mid £40k's and an awful lot to GT 4.2's sandwiched in the middle at the £33k region. The economy will be better by then so this will help cars stay high. £40k for a 5 year old GTS would be a bargain IMHO.

Not a bad loss if you bought at 52k and 18months later sold for 48k.....
Ready to jump in a 4c.....

Matt

So if you bought a 58 plate MC Shift for £52k privately at Christmas. Run it for 18 months and sell it privately for £44k would be my guess.

I'm here chaps...always checking in ;)

I'm knew these were dropping fast and steep but I'm still quite surprised at the price this one is at - the seller even states that it's negotiable which is a little unusual in how they've phased it. They obviously want rid of the car quickly and has priced it sell (which it probably will if he can get someone who likes the colour combo) but lets not forget that a few months ago Graypaul did have one at £56k (due to 40k miles) so we have seen them at this level before.

Anyway, I'll say it again and I'm sure other GT-S owners may wish to disagree but I am confident that my GT-S was the best one in the UK - although 3 years old, it'd comfortably outdrive a brand spanking new one ;) The new owner of that car got a bargain!

BTW....I'm still enjoying the BMW (when using it everyday and racking up 800 miles a week, it's good to have a car that just......works).
