There's no reason why you can't have exhaust valves that work on a 4.2. I did something very similar when I fitted valved GS back boxes on my 4200.

Indeed. I bought the kit that allow me to do just that. My point was that I didn't feel the need (decibel wise) to have it fitted. I will in case I fail the mot for noise reason

You'll be fine for the MOT, mine passed with an advisory for a noisy exhaust and it's louder than most
