GTS F1 Gearbox Remapping

Hi Folks,

Does anyone have any recommendations about tuning my 2009 Granturismo Sport MC Shift F1 gearbox? I'm aware of the Drive-by-wire and Electronic Control Module from Formula Dynamics but I have no idea how to fit such a module and I have neither the time/skills/tools/knowledge/space/balls to do it.

Is there another way to tune the shifting? I heard that the ECU is shared with the Ferrari 599 and some people have reprogrammed the box with 599 software, but wondering what the options are for speeding up the gearshifts, or if anyone can actually do the work in a professional way?

I recently had to change my exhaust as the baffles went (70k miles) in the backboxes, so I've ended up with a racing exhaust from FTech Engineering (Exeter). I also have the BMC air filter and recently had the car tuned by DMS Automotive so its now running 494HP (!) which is exciting, but upgrading the shifting seems to be the next logical step.

Suggestions greatly appreciated.

The 599 upgrade does make a difference, but I’m not sure if the people that did it are still doing it. Hopefully someone will be along shortly.

As for the DMS work, how are you finding it? Some people did a back to back run between a DMS tuned car and stock and there was no difference between them.

Hi Zep,

Car is definitely sharper. the power is all above 2000RPM but it feels significantly faster from 3000 - 7000RPM. Eg, to get the power, you need to downshift and tan it's hide. It made a difference to the sound I'm geting from the new exhaust, as it seems to be genuinely shifting more gasses through it at a higher rate, and sounds more "Ferrari Rasp" than "loud drone" at higher revs, which is something of a problem I inherited with the new exhuast and was keen to solve. Power graph attached.

The first dyno run registered 430HP, which was 10hp down on the advertised 440hp for this car, but the tuning added 64 HP back. I'm wondering if the 10HP I lost was due to aging Lambda sensors, meaning not all the gas and air was being allowed into the engine. They were changed 5 years ago but not sure if that rates them as "old" or not, but have a feeling that whenever I change them, I might get the missing 10HP back, tipping me over 500Hp, but that's just a total speculation right now.

I'm no expert at all but I don't think +64BHP is realistic with just a tune for a N/A engine that should have been pretty well tuned in the first place (nb based on what I've read on the interweb on talking shops like this! ). Although you have tuned it after changing the exhaust.
Even FD only quote +30BHP I think!

You are seeking the holy grail of upgrading - More power, faster shifts! Many have gone before you, seeking the seemingly impossible! Only surprised you haven't also included wanting sports mode without hardening the suspension as well! :)

Something is off with that dyno graph.

I don’t know. The torque and power match at 5252 rpm (roughly) which is normally where they go wrong. The graph scales aren’t very helpful, but to my eye at peak power it looks very close to 350 ft/lb of torque. So doing the maths HP = (torque x rpm)/5252 = (350 x 7300) / 5252 = 486 hp. The graph is in PS, so 494 PS = 501 HP. So based on my squinty eyes it’s not too far off.

I don’t suppose @Nighthawk they have you a graph of the wheel horsepower too? This allows a comparison without the interference of the run down losses measured to give the flywheel figures.

looks OK to me too, but they are very fudgeable with corrective parameters. It is almost always down to the integrity of the place that is doing the pulls. Great results from a N/A engine, and very rewarding if you can really feel it! Well done and thanks for sharing.

@Zep No, That was the only chart they gave me after the tuning.

It's definitly faster, sharper and has a louder rasp at high revs with the new exhaust.

The graph is for PS and let’s assume the rolling road is slightly out too (they all are). The new exhaust has lost you 30PS The tune has increased it by 60 PS. So you’re now 30bhp over stock which is what FD say so seems entirely plausible to me.

Not sure what "FD" you are referring to here. There are no Formula Dymanics parts on my car, although that was the thrust of my original question. The exhaust backboxes are from F-Tech Engineering https://www.ftechengineeringsystems.com/ and I have a BMC air filter

Viewed graph on my phone, couldn't see both scales at the same time, to see that they had expanded the hp scale. My bad.

As has been said, the 599 software seems to be the holy grail, and according to previous threads on here, no one has been able to locate anyone that can do it in recent years.

If your DMS tune is as good as it looks on paper, that would be very interesting!

I think for the benefit of all GT owners, you should now go to an independent rolling road and do a power run, just to see if the figures tally up.
