Gremlins in my door....

The wierdest thing happened on my way to Brize Norton saturday......When I was about 20 miles from arrival my door locks started to click, and then both of my windows went all the way down. I hadn't pushed any controls, and this had never happened before. I was able to raise the windows, but then the whole thing repeated all over again. This happened through out the day until I made it home saturday evening.
I tried a battery restart to see if that helped, it didn't. The only thing I could think of to do for now was to pull the fuse for the door locks. This has stopped the windows from going down without warning, but still experiencing problems.........Any input or ides for a fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
A little background information, last November the control arm to the drivers side window broke, and I had just had it repaired last week, could this have some impact?

That is a weird one, my first thought was wiring. With the door opening and closing so much on the drivers side, it wears the loom where it bridges from the door to the main body. After time, the wires crack and break, and then can short. This usually means that the fault will be intermittent, and would affect both sides.

Other than that, if it has been worked on a week ago in the affected area, you can bet that that is the cause of your problem. Take it back to whom did it and let them sort it out.

Sounds very much like its linked to the recent control arm repair, maybe a trapped, now chaffed cable shorting and activaing the window mechanism...

I'd place my money on a defective relay in the passengerfloor pan , or the mini ecu control unit , placed behind the glove box , let us know how you get on

You dont have one of the aftermarket alarms fitted where you press one button and all the windows go up an lock the car?

Probably not, but just an idea.

Well I just got back from Bob Houghtons today, and the window problem was due to the window (glass) catching the rubber bit at the front of the door. That was causing the window to catch then bind as it went up. They were able to solve that problem. The door locks they said were attributed to the water that was leaking from my air conditioner into the fuse area. They didn't know if the drains were blocked or there might be a problem with the air conditioner itself. Is there any way to clear the drains myself to help from having to take it back just to have them cleared? Thanks for everyone's input, and now we're that much closer to being problem free.............

dont know how the A.C. unit in a car is configured as I've never had a problem with one. but I know about A.C. units. the only time you get any water generated is when you have the unit in cooling mode & the air passing over the cooling/heating coil cools the air to below dewpoint temp. and water drops out of suspension. this is collected in the drip tray below the coil.
the drip tray does not have much capacity & the collected water drains away via a small plastic tube. if the tube is blocked it is most likely to be at the inlet of the tube at the tray, or a build up of debris in the tray as the water is not under any pressure( gravity drain ). If you can get at the tray you should be able to remove the drain , probaly just pulls off, & blow thruogh it from the opposite end, not the end attached to the tray. clean out the drip tray at the same time.
In this weather when the A.C. unit is most likely to be used you will be generating water every time you use the A.C.
hope this helps.
dont really know that much about auto mechanicals, but talk to me about thermo dynamics & I'll put you to sleep

There is a detailed post on here and elsewhere with photos on how to un-block these tubes, just do a search...think it was listed under passenger foot well, blocked aircon drain etc
