Update... for those interested....and those that didn't follow the previous thread you can catch up on "Granturismo - Opinions and Advice sought.." posted earlier

FYI It's a 2012 GT Sport Auto with MC software .... and covered 35,000 mls

Been a discussion between Maserati and Dick Lovett... Problem seems to be with the shift from 3rd-4th and with the bit that directs pressure to the relevant clutch the Mechtronic... I think they called it..Maserati say this is not unknown .. but also that in their experience replacing this hasn't always resolved the issue..

So... they have sanctioned a complete new gearbox under warranty... Which tbh I'm a little surprised at, but also very pleased with... Just got to wait for it to turn up next week..

Now whilst that probably gives me all the confidence I need not to extend the warranty - It also makes me feel that a Maserati warranty is actually worth having - as it does what it says on the tin... (I've had a previous claim - not so serious, but nevertheless there was potentially scope for them to quibble.... and they didn't)... so as it turns out the warranty... over and above the peace of mind value has indeed been money well spent..

I know there's been various opinions of Maserati's after sales in the past... So I just thought worth posting what has been a positive experience for me...

I'd also be curious to know of any experiences with Auto box issues - as having googled it... It seems to be a pretty rare issue..

Glad it's getting sorted. My experience of my Maserati warranty & extended warranty and my dealer has been positive albeit getting a loan car these days is a pain as they have not increased the resources despite selling a load more cars.

The trouble with forums is that they over estimate the scale of problems, the variator 'issue' being a good example. Ditto a/c compressor failure (mine did go mind!). I would keep the car and not extend the warranty further which is what I did a year ago - car is six years old on Friday and has done 42500 miles.

Helpful to know...

I've often seen the "variator issue" mentioned ... is this something I've got to look forward to ?.. How big a problem to fix ?

Whilst trying to guess the outcome of my current scenario I did have a google on eurospares website looking at the price of parts etc... Seemed to me that the costs for most things are not unreasonable - by comparison to spares for my wife Land Rover (e.g. recent alternator at £700,,, was told that had it been a Range Rover it would have been £2k)....Certainly no worse than BMW or Merc Parts.

I'm aware of discs being pricey, but most of the other stuff seems eminently do-able if the need arose..

Didn't spend too much time on the engine bits as I think it's the strongest bit of the car..and having had a 4200 and a 4.2GT .. both problem free I'm hoping that the current ride will continue to be fine in that respect .

I am sure the gearbox supplier (Getrag?) will be picking up the tab as a failed unit.

Glad they honoured it, at 35k miles, your going to pay for the clutch too yes?...would be mad not to if its a keeper.
