Hi Guys, so after purchasing my 2010 black granturismo sport from Dicky grace two years ago, and two years of smiling from ear to ear when starting the car! It needs a service. The local indy autofficina in surrey, has two services available minor and major. I wasnt sure which one the car needs. It's done 37500 miles. When i bought the car in 2017 dicky had put it through auto shield who did a service involving oil filter spark plugs and service. The car was previously serviced at carrs maserati Exeter in 5.16 with 6th year service including oil brake coolant and power steering service, belts for water pump compressor belt resistor also changed. Oil filter brake fluid changed. The mileage was 25973 at that service, the 2017 service at auto shield was done at 35000 miles, and the car is at 37500 miles at the moment.
Autofficina said that the minor service involves oil and filters and etc, whereas the major involves belts and brake fluid change etc.
The reason I am asking for advice is that the difference is double in terms of costs . Any advice much appreciated, I did try and go see voicey but when I called they are only accepting new customers who live locally unfortunately. Any recommendations for local maserati specialists also appreciated!! Thanks for helping guys!

Speak to Marios at Autoshield for his recommendation and have the work done by Autoshield. Very likely Autofficina is going to be very expensive for either minor or major. Autoshield did what appears to be a big service as prep for sale. They are likely to give you the best guidance for this next service which has seen the car doing just 2000 miles since they serviced it last (if I got that correct from your history).

Seems like a strange decision, I didn’t know a business could have too many customers.

Why does it matter whether you’re local or not?

Last time I was at Autoshield, a customer had just arrived from the southeast for a service in a Bianco Fuji GranSport.

I believe the decision is based on the ease of getting the cars too and from the workshop and the amount of work they have on.

Hi, I think you’re quite local to me (I’m in Ashtead)…

Autofficina are a good choice if you are looking for a local independent specialist. They do a lot with Maserati and Ferrari, and I would have thought they would be able to tell you which service it needs. It sounds like this is year 8/9?

Get it down to the forum garage where you could get the better service done for less.

Remember its a two year interval on the GT so better to be cautious aa its a long time between them.

Just my two pence worth if it helps.

Bought my QPV GTS earlier this year - the previous owner had a prior service and other misc work carried out by Autofficina (AO), and as part of my decision making process I paid to have the car inspected by them. In honesty the inspection report they produced wasn't a great deal more than an MOT, which left me slightly disappointed - and I feel this way because I invested in another inspection with Voicey the previous year for another GTS, and from that I received an extremely exhaustive and thorough, detailed inspection report (some 20 or so pages!), which helped me decide that particular car wasn't for me.

That said, I went ahead with the car inspected by AO and had the MOT done by them (outsourced)/rear brake pads changed... they recommended EBC yellowstuff in place of OEM, which saved me money, produce less dust (allegedly) and perform better (also allegedly, being new to Maserati!).

I've since been back for a handful of things, replacing a rear seatbelt (which was a big 3 hour job) - and as part of that they identified my rear speakers weren't working, so I was grateful they picked that up and 'killed 2 birds with one stone'.

On a separate occasion they offered to change my battery FOC (which, for the record, resolved all of my electrical issues) - I thought it was a nice gesture; yes I could have done it myself but as I was in the area, why not! Kudos also to AO for re-attaching my external charger leads rather than tossing them aside...

They're not the least expensive out there, but considerably less so than a main dealer... the team there are always very friendly and accommodating - Peter and Elias run the place, with Tina on the front desk. The premises are fantastic, adorned with all types of automotive exotica (for sale and being serviced), for which Italian is their speciality - they were happy for me to stick around and listen to my ranting on a conference call when I was pushed for time, so I got comfortable on the sofas with a coffee and worked in much better surroundings than my normal place(s) of work!

I'm based in Redhill so Epsom isn't too far away for me and based on my experiences so far I'll continue to use them as my go-to. Hope this helps...

This

When your car reaches the age that yours is, in my experience it is a case of doing what needs to be done when it is being serviced, rather than strictly what the tick boxes say should be done. A sensible garage will advise you at the time exactly what it needs based on what they see, when it was last serviced, and how many mile it has covered since the last service.
Good to hear that you're still enjoying it after 2 years, I haven't tired of mine either
