Hi all was looking for some advice who’s made the jump from granturismo to a Ferrari f430 is it worth the extra 30 or 40 grand is it that much of a step up I know it probably is in terms of performance any advice appreciated

Same engine (basically) so similar power. However, the F430 weighs a fraction of what the GTS does so it would leave it for dead on the road.

Obviously it’s much smaller so possibly less useable, @voicey from AV engineering has one and rates it highly.

It’s a Ferrari so parts will probably be cheaper!:laugh::laugh:

Personally I would drive one. The Maser has a long wheelbase, you sit quite a long way back and it has relatively heavy steering. Any mid engined Ferrari sits you much further forward and has much faster turn in. Very different cars. I wouldn’t see it as a replacement and if you want the Ferrari I would keep the Maser as well for when you don’t want to fry your brain.

I've been considering reducing the number of cars I have, and selling two or three to get something special, but the great thing about variety is that you can have a more tailored experience.
So if, for example, I sold the GT S and Exige V6 (and maybe my R129), how would I get on with a 360 manual, 430 F1, 550 Maranello, V12V or DBS?

My brother has one, and in my opinion it's a massive step up. However it's a different kind of car. If you're looking for a GT car at that bracket, it's gen2 Vanquish or a slightly older DBS.

Hi...just replaced my 2018 Grancabrio. I’ve had 4 GTs over the years. Loved the style and sounds of each. It was time to change direction. Not happy the next generation will be electric and probably not be available in the states for a couple of years. Took delivery of this product from across the pond 2 days ago. To me it has the style, sounds and craftsmanship the Mauser had.7959779598795997959779598

Try a Stradale before you jump from the brand. It’ll knock your socks off.

I do like your Aston rjohn however i fear they will drop value quickly, especially here in the UK where they have been moved using amazing finance deals which just pushes the resale value down.

I’ve had 4 GranTurismo over the years. Loved them all but it was time to change. You are right about the great deals. My ‘19 Grancabrio
was very low mileage. The dealer here sells both brands. He saw mine in for service and wanted to buy it. We worked out a deal for 7k
in cash and he took me out of my lease with 34 payments to go and put me into a 175k Aston for $40/month more. I couldn’t be happier.

OP - I went from a granturismo to a F430 about 4 years ago. I can tell you it is a totally different experience.

PROs:
  • performance and feel are just in a completely different league. The car is and feels way quicker and nimble due to size, weight and power. Way more responsive and lighter. It’s all the performance you’ll ever need.
  • the sound is way more intoxicating and sounds a lot purer. I adored the GT sound (MC corsa exhaust on mine), but it was “fatter” and not as crisp. The F430 screams and is truly deafening from the outside.
  • Not that much more expensive to maintain than a GT MC shift - if you buy a well sorted car. Use a trusted Indy (AV engineering for example)
  • the sense of occasion is without comparison to the GT. I have had my 430 for 4 years, and I still have butterflies and a slight shake when I step in the car and press the red start button. I guess that’s what 70+ years of racing pedigree does to you... that and the aura impressing on the child we all have within ourselves.
CONs:
  • unless you live in Knightsbridge, you won’t go unnoticed anywhere, esp if your car is red.
  • you will worry about leaving it parked up in the street when you go out for dinner (esp if red)
  • the minute any builder coming to your home sees the car, your quote will go up 30%
  • the day you sell it, will probably be sadder and more of a pain, as you can forget private sale...
As to whether it is worth an extra £30k - only you can answer this question. Whether your networth is 500k or 5m, whether you make 50k or 500k a year, how important is that itch to you, whether you really need the 4 seats etc...

If you asked me today whether I would trade down to a GTS again and get £30k extra in my pocket? I’d say **** no!
Would I want to own a GTS again sitting next to my 430 and my 550? I’d say **** yes, as it’s an amazing value proposition !!

I thought the Ferrari would be more expensive to maintain heard the horror stories about exhaust manifolds there’s many cars I’d like at that price point Lamborghini Porsche Aston McLaren but I was once given a birthday as a kid that said hope all your dreams come true including the Ferrari!

I did upgrade the manifolds the second I bought the car - not that expensive tbh esp if installed by someone like Aldous.
If you want to avoid nightmares, stay well clear of McLaren.
Unless you go for a GT3, you will find Porsche very dull compared to a GT.
Aston are beautiful and sound good, but not the sense of occasion of a Ferrari.
Oh, and I am not subjective at all (except for McL) :)

At 70k budget i would be seriously tempted by a manual V12 Vantage.

I see a lot of negativity towards McL and with good reason. But as some say, a second hand low miles example that had some/most of the post production issues ironed out and at low price could be a smart and rewarding purchase.

As above .
Some 430s are in Cali T price territory and I think I could be tempted in that direction instead

Don’t rule out a V12VS with the later SSiii automated manual box. It’s a joy to drive. The S also has switchable shocks so, when you’re not in in a hooping state of mind, can be a smoother GT proposition than the more sports-only feel of the earlier V12V.

@Rjohnscharer, lovely spec on that Vantage, well done!

I have both 360 manual and GT-S and they are very different animals. They compliment each other more than anything. Rivarama’s comments are spot on.

Whilst the Vantage above is lovely I can’t help feel it’s lots some of its beguiling charm.
Those front and rear plasticy aero bits make it look like it’s been to the local cosmetic surgeon who has cartoonishly added em........way way too much imo.
