The way I see it, these days life is all a big negative cashflow ...

Even in the land of the Rising Sun?????....Giorgio of the Maserati factory told me the Japanese all buy LHD Maseratis as a status/symbolic type statement.....and when a few years they "placed" a number of RHD cars into selected dealerships...they wouldn't buy them?! True or any knowledge of it? Sorry for side tracking the thread!

Well, I am in the Land of the Rising Tax right now, so no chance of anything positive rising for me these days.

Giorgio's right. Foreign cars in Japan must be LHD.

As we were discussing on another thread, the GS is doing the same, if not better than the GT/GTS in regards to depreciation.

Infact, what is the 3200 doing. I sold mine 18 months ago for £14k, its was a mint 2001 manual with about 35k on it from memory...whats that worth now, probably still way above £10k?

I think, the Maserati brand had been forgotten about, and now is on a come back. Volumes are up, the cars are much more reliable....but like you say, its not all good news for us, its becoming very expensive to make the next step.

It must make for interesting comparisons in terms of overall running costs including depreciation. With Granturismos only dropping £15k-£20k over three years the real all in running costs (if mileage, and consumables low) will compare favourably with some heavily depreciating new £40k cars, with some shedding 55-60% in 3 years. My Alfa 156 2.5 shed £16k in the first 4 years.

Or is it more than £15-20k allowing for options etc??

Depreciation is worse than it looks. Lets assume that come the autumn a 57 plate three year old 4.2 GT retails at £53/55k. It will trade at, say, £46/48k but it would not have cost £78k as they seem to be ordered with a lot of spec so £85-90k seems more likely. Therefore it has dropped c£40k in three years - hardly cheap motoring!

From most of our perspectives the deal is what can we buy a used one for? Due to the fact that a new GT comes in over £20k more than a new 4200 did, many of us are feeling priced out of the market, new or used. Personally I cannot get my mind round paying £53/55k for a three year old car when my 5.5 year old 4200GT will probably be worth only £13-15k (main dealer low bid) in the autumn. £40k to change to go from a 5.5 to a 3.0 year old car? Can't see it.

PS I'm waiting for the GT to get a lot cheaper as it really needs to be sub £40k to get me in. No sign yet though!

From a personal perspective i would love them to go down in price.

But i think if they maintain their value then its good for the brand and eventually for people who own them aswell, as they wont get stung when it come to upgrade time.

i do however agree with bigbob as to the great disparity between the used prices between a 42 and GT, and the significant difference needed if one wanted to upgrade.
