Granturismo Oil Valve Solenoid Warranty

Hi everyone,

Less than 7 months ago my car starts making a tapping noise on the revs down to idle. I had checked out and it was the result of bad oil valve solenoids. Both solenoids were replaced along with new plugs and an oil change - the problem was solved. Just recently though the issue is back, exactly the same as before. My question is; is there any warranty on official Maserati parts? The parts are only around 7 months old. I've already been advised by the garage there is no warranty on the job but surely there must be on the parts at least? It wasn't a cheap job and having to go through the same procedure again only 7 months later doesn't seem right.

fyi: The variator fix and mod has previously been done. It's a 2009 S 4.7

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I believe it should be 12 months if the garage sourced the parts themselves... however if you sourced them your stuck with trying to prove to Maserati that it is those that are a fault and not that they were fitted incorrectly/damaged by the repair garage.

That actually sounds like a much bigger problem.
So it makes a tapping (rattle??) sound die-accelerating? that is indicative of chain issue.

What exactly did they replace? (part numbers... as people often incorrectly describe the components)

That's good news then. Yes the garage supplied all the parts.

I'm not sure exactly but from what I can find online I believe they were 296016 (right) and 296016 (left) plus an oil change and new plugs because it apparently run very rough after initially replacing them. The noise had completely gone for around 6 months then.

Yeah, kind of a slight faint rattle on de-accelerating (happens at the very low end of the rev) and also at the top end of the revs for a second when you redline it. Also, it's just occasional at the moment but I expect it will progressively become more often like last time.

That still can be a failed variator or tensioner, rather typical when just replacing one item the rest of the system goes out after a few months.
Often people get stuck in to fixing symptoms. (oil return check valve upgrade > variator > chain & tensinoers)

What I'd suggest have some one do a proper diagnosis on the cold start (variator), warm idle (actuator), and deceleration (chains)

Second what AS Motorsport have recommended and get it looked at asap otherwise there could be tears.

Thanks for all the help. Is this something I could check myself? I generally maintain my other cars myself. If not should I have the car towed to the garage or would it be ok to drive? (around 20 miles)

Million Dollar Question there.
It needs the front cover off and first you need the valve covers off.
Time consuming but if you're happy on the tools and have a mechanical understanding it's all doable.

Both the issues aren't something you can just DIY it's a good day or two of work to fully diagnose and by then your replacing chain and variator set anyway (add an other day or two)

Yep, front cover off which means front pulley off and your going to need a big bar and a torque wrench that goes up to 400nm

I forget not everyone has all the kit and totally agree it's a very labour intensive job having had a few apart.
