The Gran Cabrio needs a lift on performance but I am not sure whether an extra 10bhp is going to make an awful lot of difference.......bit like a 400 pound man boastiing he has lost 10 pounds............he is still a fat bloke

The Gransport received an extra 10bhp over the 4200 and it did not make a lot of difference to the performance

Doesn't seem a lot when you can get an extra 50bp by simply remapping the 4.2. The new bhp and torque figures are almost exactly what Nick has in his 8 year old spyder. It makes you wonder just what the extra 500ccs are doing!

UM...was it not a case of the power curve changing, ie power offered at a different time is a slightly different way to maximise the real on the road output/speed, making a real difference to how the GS performed on the road?

P, that sounds like the b*****ks put out by the marketers! Can't see it making that much of a difference.

Frank I don't think there is any vast difference in the acceleration of a Gransport against a 4200 although the handling is significantly better. The Cabriolet is a heavy car and quite sluggish. It is hard to imagine that 10bhp is going to set the world on fire

Yes...the point being with the difference in power supplied, plus better set up, and a few other significant tweaks, the GS is a much more sporty car than the 4200.........not really for the GT cabrio though...far bigger car!

PS Benny, how did you know I worked for the Maserati marketing department.......wild guess or watching too much of deal or No deal!!!????....;)

UM, am I right in thinking the big difference in the handling is down to different (lower and stiffer) springs and that these can be retro fitted to the 4200 and spyder? I have been thinking about putting a set of GS springs on my spyder in order to sharpen up the handling and reduce the floaty feeling I occasionally get when pushing on a bit.

The suspension. the whole stance of the car and the speed of the gear change makes the Gransport quite abit more sporty but if you do a lot of town driving you are better off with the standard set up of the 4200. The Gransport in sport mode and speed bumps just dont go together.

certainly looks the part but 10hp increase is a bit pathetic, may as well not have bothered.

...only a small part of the story Adam.........if you can put more of the power onto the road and corner more quickly....don't need much more......just a bit more will, with the 3/4/5 other improvements, result a far more sporty cabrio...............
