Grancabrio Roof Switch - changing to "one touch"

Will it stop?... or will it just move to the open/close movement all over again?

I'm 99% sure it will stop.

From their website:

"Turning the ignition on or off as well as hitting any button on the remote at any time during remote operation immediately stops an ongoing top operation"
"To interrupt an ongoing operation: Tap the console switch in any direction at any time - even if the top was started by remote!"

It does look like a well designed and well thought through product.

That's dreadful Mark... imagine the embarrassment explaining to the Hospital, Police and Social services that you own a Mazda.

Haha! That was purely for illustrative purposes. Actually it was a Jaguar X-type - which felt like a reasonable-sized car until I picked up two American colleagues from the airport. Mine was green, but this illustration will help people to spot the problem area. I'm not sure quite how bad it would have been - there are quite squishy rubber seals between the door and the pillar. But it was heart-stopping for a moment.

The learning curve is steep but simple if you get your hands caught.... 'Ouch' and 'Don't do it again...' OR if my wife is involved you'd get the double slam as the door didn't close properly in the first instance. So more like 'Ouch' Scream ( check fingers) followed up by 'Don't do it again'

Resurrecting this thread as I have just bought a GC. Has anybody used the Smarttop - or even tried fitting one yet?
I am very keen to have one touch operation (talk about 1st world problems!).
Perhaps @conaero has tested one - I’d need SI to fit it anyway.
Thanks…

I'm sure you could fit it yourself, following your windscreen wipers triumph!

On our older Spyder I usually have to start/reverse/start the opening as the rear closing spirals can be sluggish, even after stripping and cleaning them.

Never fitted one nor seen one on a customer car but yes, we would do it as long as you are aware of the safety issues of entrapment and as Gaz put it...posting your small child into the boot.

I have those on the Jag XJ am guessing getting your fingers trapped in “soft close” will cause a lot less damage than getting your fingers caught in a traditional “slam shut”.
As yet Mrs Scaf has not learnt the “soft close” function and slams them anyway - does my nut in.
I have in the past actually cut off the tip of an ex girlfriends finger doing the gentlemanly thing and opening and closing her door , thought she was out but the stupid lass lent back in to try and get her handbag when the door was in full swing on a jensen healey, hospital job and 3hrs saw it sown back on again , wasnt a pretty site scraping it off the inside door shut ,

Ok - so I bought one, and I fitted it myself. I am extremely pleased with the result - it works perfectly. I've configured mine for the most simple operation - one touch - but you can go further and configure roof opening via the remote. It took me approx 10 minutes to fit and the level of skill required was definitely "basic". If I were to remove it tomorrow it would take me approx 5 minutes and no-one would know it had ever been installed.

You really don't need to get a garage to fit it for you - it's really easy.

Pleased to hear that it works and my skills might be able to fit it!
Out of interest. Did you pay the c£360 or buy the new one on eBay from US at c£200 incl. postage (but not potential postal tax)?

I ordered mine from the UK - I think I used the main website, but it was actually supplied by a company called "Design 911".

The problem with the one from the US is that all you can see in the picture is the module itself and that might be all you receive. You also need the wiring loom extension which is what makes the fitting so simple. When I bought it, the price was £325 in total.

If you do decide to fit it yourself, it goes in the boot. If I remember correctly, there are only 4 trim clips that need to be removed and they're pretty easy to deal with.

Blu Oceano, owned by people with great taste! Here it is taking a breather in ProvenceView attachment 112485
You could have cleaned it first! I’ve managed to scratch an alloy on the curb last week.
Hope all is well in Peru, John…funnily enough, we are just planning our Argentina, Chile and Uruguay Road trip for early next year (not in the Maser unfortunately!)

half way through a road trip, no washing allowed! Alloys are easily done, but at least the Michelins provide some protection. The pax reverse mirror dip is very useful for the near side, and sometimes needs a bit of resetting.

Seen a few Maseratis here in Lima, though mainly Levantes which is understandable.

Road trip sounds cracking, should have a lot of fun and lots of miles to cover. Weve hardly left Lima so far, but planning trips.

Just got the GC back from @conaero at Sportsitalia. For those in doubt, the Smarttop is excellent - so easy and such a breath of fresh air (literally). It looks easy to instal but I would always leave these things to SI!
