so I plugged my standard blackberry into the USB port in the glovebox (to charge it) and the whole central screen crashed, then reverted to the maserati logo for 10 mins, and then restarted but with lines all over the screen.

unplugged the BB and it was all fine again

anyone got any ideas? whats the point of the USB port if you cant use it to charge your BB which is bluetoothed to the in car phone system.

For a brand new £100k car there sure are a lot of **** things with it (passenger footwell is also dripping water in the rain, paint has faded on an area the size of a 10p coin on top of the rear wing, indicator stalk dosent self cancel, battery runs out regularly). I had a Lotus elise before and I was kind of willing to put up with those things on a £20k car, but this is ridiculous on a £100k car.

Sorry to hear you are having issues with the mistress Wardlem. I don't have the USB connection in the 4200 but I'd suspect it was more an issue of the Crapberry rather than the ICE.

Water dripping needs to be attended to but in the summer is often down to condensation on the A/C pipes rather than a leak. If it is this time of year Id suspect it to be a leak around the glass.

Faded paint is quite rare on OEM paint, I'd be looking at contamination, alkaline burn (dripping concrete car park, bird cr@p etc.) or an old repair that is failing (I have one of these).

Battery drain is most likely the NAVTRAK battery failed and draining the main battery; this can be replaced F.O.C. if you are a paying member or ripped out if it is no longer required by your insurers.

Mainly though, you have to be willing to accommodate a few oddities as they are 'Italian'....

personally i use the USB to plug in a memory stick full of music, works a treat. To charge my blackberry i use a £1.00 charger off fleabay.

the indicator sounds like someone has forced it, may be a fix with the wheel off, is yours in warranty?

If its brand new and has these problems I would ask for a new car. That list is a disgrace on a Ford yet alone a Maser

Don't take it the wrong way but I would go and buy a 650i Cabriolet as Beemers have more robust electronics and cope better with sitting in the street for long periods of time between use. If you parked the car in a garage then the paint, water and battery issues (with a conditioner) would disappear. I agree that these things are not acceptable but I suspect that the car cannot deliver what you want.

I don't bother plugging my iPhone in as it can throw the audio source but I don't have music on it which might confuse the system.

well when I took it to a Massa deal to get a new tyre (yes, I needed a new tyre after 2000 miles from brand new as somehow there was a bulge in the sidewall) he seemed to think the paint thing was water getting under the paint.

just to reiterate to everyone this car was brand new last September. Ive solved the battery thing by simply driving the car around randomly to keep the battery charged up.

Im wondering whether a gallardo or DB9 would have the same niggles (the other options when I was buying the GC)

The paint is waterbased, sounds more like its a fault from the factory and getting worse with age. If you moan, they will sort it, the Maserati Trident warranty is top notch and no quibble.

Wardlem,
Get it back to Maserati mate and write to Maserati first with the full vehicle details, rant and rave about the quality and standards you have got with your car and they should sort it.
Cheers

an update from the Masser dealer for anyone thats interested:

1. They think they can polish out the paint belmish on the rear wing - we will see
2. heard nothing about the ICE issue with the BB
3. The amber suspension warning light came on and a clunking can be heard from the nearside front wheel area - fixed (not sure what the issue was)
4. They are waiting for Maserati to tell them what to do about the water dripping into the passenger footwell - apparently it is coming in from "loads of different places".

been without the car for over a week now.............I have been given a bloody skoda as a replacement ! lol

A Skoda..?? Well at least your feet should stay dry..?????
I am not sure if the USB plug in the dash is meant as a charger, if not that could be the problem, the phone being flat..??
Let the dealer sort the car out and inspect all the work and ask for a full report of the work carried out and parts replaced so you can be sure of what's what. The leaks sound to be a factory issue and that has to be sorted under warranty without question.

The USB port in the glove box is not a charging point, it is merely an interface connection for the data to the NIT unit in the dash, and the 3.5mm jack plug next to it is for transmitting the music to the same system. What will have happened is when you plugged the Blackberry into the USB, it thought that you wanted to connect it to the car, and because they are completely un-compatible with eachother, that is what made the screen crash. This USB connection in the glovebox is purely for I-pod connectivity (NOT using the supplied Apple lead I might add, or it will do the same thing! You have to have a Maserati supplied `Y` lead) and also data transfer...so for example if you load music onto a memory stick, it can be loaded onto the jukebox hard drive. Phone's, no matter what brand/type/model etc are not designed to be plugged into the car via hard-wire, only Bluetooth. It isn't Maserati's fault, it is all down to software licensing unfortunately!

I can plug my iPhone etc in to my Jeep by wire in the glovebox, but it has an iPhone/pad interface, then I can play music from my phone..!!

I just cannot believe the treatment you are getting from presumably a main dealer. It is a total disgrace. Meridien would have been all over it like a rash with copious assurances of attention plus a quick Alfa as a courtesy car to boot.
Please tell all who we should avoid..................
