Well I was driving to 5-a-side football this evening in my Abarth, running a bit late, and found myself held up by a dawdling commuter. I dropped a gear, revved the engine a bit, and looked for an opportunity to overtake. There wasn't one, so I eased back.

Suddenly, on the display, I noticed a message. My car was communicating with me!

I'm gobsmacked - it's like something out of LA Story.

I managed to grab a blurry photo before the message disappeared.

Anyone experienced this kind of thing before?

I can't make it out, what does it say?

And thanks for the reminder of LA Story, Steve Martin was on fire back then. I need to see that movie again

Excellent - a software engineer with a sense of humour! You wouldn't get that on any other country's cars.

'enjoy the ride'

almost like these cars are fitted with secret messages whereby a particular series of events are needed to activate them lol

Artists do this with songs but hide particular noises and phrases in the background etc.

Never seen the message before, despite having driven this Abarth many times in a spirited way.

This car is such a little bargain - 14K OTR and a really, really sporty little drive; and with a far better engine note than my 4C.

Have you got blue and me on the car ? "Enjoy the ride" is a strap line they use in the blue and me manual.

The wifes normal 500 p155e5 me off all the time - telling me to "change up" to the point it wants you doing 25 in 5th and it wont pull at all!!!

Does my napper in!!!

I feel your pain :)
My wife 500 does the same but to be honest so do most modern cars i have driven lately.
If you floor it when your wifes 500 is telling you to gear up, the sign will clear :)

Actually, the Honda Jazz was the first car to have these types of messages on the dash. They respond to the speed rather than revs as we all now that their drivers slip the clutch. At 35 it's says 'Slow down!' at 45 it's say 'enjoy the Motorway' at 70 it says 'Breathing is impossible!'.

Or so I think by the way they drive...
