Going abroad

Hi all,

Well - assuming that I actually get my car back at some point (having Larini cat fitted this week!...) I will be taking her across the Channel late August.

So a couple of questions if I may:

1) Just deciding on whether to take the ferry or go via the eurotunnel. As I see it the tunnel is slightly more expensive but quicker + I believe my car is less likely to be parked between two old VW's.

2) I guess I will need to put some kind of strip on the headlights (xenon) - any recommendations? I used some stickers a couple of years back (on my other car) and I still haven't managed to remove them entirely from the lenses!

3) I'm taking my two kids, 11 and 12, probably heading down to La Rochelle, maybe a mixture of B&B and some camping. Just wondering if anyone has been that way or done something similar? Would be nice to have a mixture of nice roads plus things to see and do to keep them occupied.

Look forward to your words of wisdom ;)

Yeah, chunnel it is......

None of the guys who went over to the Le Mans event did this.....................there is a thread on driving in France re lights, vest etc.......

Good idea to mix and match.......just come off the Autotroute whenever you feel the need, sometimes the best sight seeing trips are those not planned!

P

PS Do take autoroute around Rouen though.........it should be renamed RUIN actually!!!!

Yeah Vests have to be in the car (not in the boot ) triangle and bulbs mandatory ,Xennon lights as i have been told do not have to be adjusted or striped , i have never done anything to them and cant say ive been flashed at , well, apart from the odd perv down the park when i was a kid , but thats another story , but then i havent been stopped and grilled by the police maybe worth using a bit of insulating tape , at least it'll look like you have made some sort of attempt to conform

Goaty, just watch out for the tiny curbs on the Eurotunnel, its almost impossible not to curb you alloys on them...I prefer the Ferry, sit down and have a beer.

Up in the north my options are either Rosyth - Zebrugge ferry, or drive Glasgow - Folkestone/Dover for the chunnel/ferry. Advantage of the Rosyth route is that you save your mileage and consumables but takes 20 hours and could be expensive depending on what option/s you go for. Rather fitting as well is that it is an Italian built ship (2009 launch)

With the chunnel can you specify if you can go on the lorry section as the floor is more accommodating for cars with a wider track? Im not sure and can't remember if its true, can anyone enlighten?

Andrew

If I recall correctly if you specify your vehicle is over a certain height then you score the lorry section - not sure what the height requirement is though. Someone here will know.

Yep, if you state that you have a bicycle rack or roof box, you get put in the single decker carriage...
Option is available when making the booking, did this last year and was good...booked the same for the trip tommorow,

Enzo.
