For what it's worth I've had a Hero 2 for about a year. I use it mainly for skiing, stuck to my helmet so I look like a Tellytubby, or on hols for getting underwater pictures of the kids.
The picture and video quality is truly special and the thing is pretty rugged.
The downside is that the addition of the screen backpack so you can actually frame shots rather than just point and hope, makes it all unpleasantly bulky for sticking in a pocket or using as a compact camera. And it's got this annoying on/off button that's really easy to knock when it's in a pocket or backpack, so on several occasions I've pulled it out to shoot some vista, only to find the battery dead and the memory card full of 90 mins footage of a fleece, a flask and a pack of energy bars.
Good for mounting, bad for day to day use is, I guess, my verdict. Hope that's some help!
