It's a nice car, I've test driven it! It's a very basic spec, so wasn't for me, but they were adamant they wouldn't take a penny less than £42k for it in September!!

Wonder what another 6 months will bring, there are a few under £40k now.

It'll be over-aged stock. Too many Ghiblis about with basic spec - this one only has the 19" wheel upgrade.

When they get to 30k£. I'll try and talk the Mrs around to getting one for the Daly drive.

I agree with the sentiments here, if they were to hit £30k I would trade the GS and have 2 years in a petrol whilst I wait for something else to come out of Modena.

I'm amazed they have stayed at the 40k price point for so long considering they are over 2 years old now and have not had the best reviews in the motoring World. Still they are a Maserati and they have some of THE best residuals out there.

When I was sourcing mine about a year ago, the prices were all over the place. There was £10k difference between very similar specs. I was very lucky with mine to find the spec I wanted at a decent price.

Really? They're such different cars, I wouldn't swap one for the other either way round. If I were to buy a petrol I'd get the V6 S having driven the new QP with the same engine for a few days. It's properly quick and handles well, but it's no GranSport. I think it'll be a while until this version hits £30k.

Theyre holding partly because almost every car is main dealer stock. Very few private sales out there as the car is still so new.

The petrol versions are holding much better than the diesels too. Looks like there are 4 diesels per petrol, which is not surprise. I think that there is a percentage of buyers, like myself, who don't care about the fuel cost. Much as there are always buyers for the m5 or AMG when the large diesels are way more sensible.

Try to find a petrol for less than £45k.

I'm not sure why some on here are so surprised at Ghiblis being available at £40k at 1-2 years old. The basic car was £50k and most for sale are standard spec with maybe £2k of wheels at most. That's just 20% depreciation - no different to most cars that all lose the VAT in their value the minute they drive off the forecourt. There are some deals to be had if you have money in your pocket and are prepared to negotiate hard - I got mine for £22k less than list at 7 months old with 4K miles. It's a heavily-specced car and optional extras depreciate the quickest!

I got £23k off list (get it up you MAF !) at 6 months old and 5800 miles. It would still retail for similar money to what I paid.

Maseratis always hold value well. What would make the early ones drop is if they bought out a twin turbo D which we all know they will do, I bet on a 3 year cycle to get the initial buyers to stay with the Ghibli, so I would expect something soon.

Agree with that, they are just performing to the usual big saloon profile. I posted this recently, a leggy two year old car for £33k:

http://www.sportsmaserati.com/showthread.php/19524-Ghibli-three-year-old-values

As for petrol versus diesel, the petrol will look better financially at a few years old as they will do less miles and they cost more in the first place but the depreciation on a lfl basis might be the same. Quite why the base petrol should cost £5k more than the diesel new and the S another £11k or whatever it is is just plain silly.

As Matt says we need a twin turbo diesel but also the standard petrol car should be the S but at the standard price and the S should have the wick turned up to 500PS. Models needs updating so that people upgrade, something which Maserati is very bad at understanding.

A twin turbo diesel would make a nice replacement for mine in a couple of years. I'd also be very interested if they put the QP's V8 twin turbo into the Ghibli as the range topper.
