Gearbox whine on the Balboni

As some of you are aware, there has been a whine developing somewhere in the gearbox over the last 3,000 miles.

It started before the Le Mans & South of France trip and the advice I was given by Lamborghini was to drive it to destruction to actually give them something to mend.

So I obliged.

Whilst I'm still convinced it's just a bearing, I'm not going to argue with their solution to the problem.... an entire new gearbox is being fitted next week when it arrives from Italy!

Very glad it's under warranty as it would otherwise have cost somewhere in the region of £12,000!!

Interestingly, the clutch is is only 20% worn at 12,000 miles. So that would suggest a life of up to 60,000 miles which is a vast improvement on the earlier versions that apparently lasted only 5,000 miles. Or may be it's due to the delicate way in which I drive it ;)

A friend of mine in Stockholm was quoted EUR7.5k just for the clutch on his Gallardo. Sobering! Great news, Dan, that yours is a) under warranty, and b) that the order went in before the Italian summer holidays start in earnest.

I wonder which component they'll ask you to drive to destruction next? Sounds fun!

Just a thought, it might be worth changing the clutch while the gearbox is off. It would only cost the parts and if you do sell it, it would be another good selling point.

Because the box is off and he doesnt have to pay for the labour to dismantle the rear end of the car and it might start slipping in 20k miles. Who knows?
