This in Classic Car Weekly might suggest they have.

Though I doubt a good sound 3200GT can be found for £10k. Most at that price have important history missing, pending belts, brakes and clutches, bad colours or are just plain neglected.

I don't disagree with him in general, but boy do I smell a vested interest.

I've been watching the market for a while, it seems there are many accident damaged cars about. A good, straight car with a strong history is hard to come by; I should know - I spent 8 months looking for the ideal car. I do think they will be a classic, but not for another 10 years or so, when there will be even fewer on the road.

I agree the 3200 in great condition will only rise in value due to the simple fact of available numbers in the UK. I believe howmanyleft.co.uk advise approx 500 left on UK roads ( 2012 ). See link below. I wonder how much I would get for mine now ?
71k FMSH, Automatic in Neptune Blue and all known problems dealt with by previous owners. Next service due late August.

They really have to dip in numbers plus be limited runs/convertibles........to truly rise quickly....never mind there being petrol left in 20 yrs time!!

Given the number of recent write off's and the number of cars going to Australia, I think the value of decent UK cars will soon rise. It was 500 at the beginning of 2012, split 50/50 Auto with the far superior manual :tt:

So really we are talking of <250 examples of each.

I think straight examples will become sought after. So that probably takes it down a fair bit from 250.

The issue is we all enjoy driving our cars, and if you look at most collector/classic cars they have low miles.

Yep I know its better to be used but as 75% of 3200's for sale at 60k + miles most will end up as spares in the next 10 years as they will be 100-140k by then with poor history over the last decade, the same will come of well used 4200's

I think the 3200 will be better in regard of mileage as it does not have the stigma of being descended from a Ferrari lump.

That said, look at Ferrari 365GT 2+2 and Ferrari 400 prices - all ugly cars, most high in miles but rocketing in value of late.

Why do you think the ferrari association is a stigma Arnie? Most consider it a positive and the new beginning compared to the prior biturbo era associations of the 3.2.

I don't have an axe to grind either way, just curious...

I think that the biggest issue with these cars is that the running costs are the same regardless of how much you can buy one for - sadly that's why many performance cars drop into the hands of those who cannot afford to look after them, next stop the scrap heap when something major goes wrong. These cars even at bargain basement prices still require the same attention and care as when they were brand new £60k-£70k supercars. Even though the forum has been amazing at finding replacement parts at reasonable prices, they are still relatively expensive. The one thing you cannot get away from is the servicing costs - who on here wants to buy a car which hasn't been serviced properly?

Same with any high end car, either they become valueless....or can't be kept up to scratch.....only a few percent survive the scrape along the bottom of the value curve

Agreed Frank. It's the popularity/demand for certain cars or marques which makes the difference. As long as the car has a decent value, the owner will not mind paying for the upkeep in order to maintain that value. Aston Martin Oscar India cars from the 70s and 80s still command a huge price and so the running costs are worthwhile, same with a number of Ferraris. Dig a little deeper and see DB7s that are still dropping due to a lack of desirability, same for the Ferrari Mondial etc.

Indeed MAF.......Ferraris have survived in big numbers relatively speaking, purely because so few were made, plus their value now are very high.....makes it worthwhile as some of them are true investments!

Take a look at Eurospares 'Breaking' section, theres some lovely cars being taken apart for parts and they have no damage...Older QP in red, Ghibli, Ferrari 440 due to a blowing exhaust!!!

As the posts above, if they fall into the hands of the back street repair chaps you will need to do a restoration to make it go up/retain its value after shoddy work.

Quick one on this.....
When new £60k ish....10yrs later £10k, this puts it in the boys price bracket......which = trouble.....overheard two "youngsters" talking........buy it...rag it.....sell it !
Was laughing 2 months later......they had wasted their money as hit a wall !!!!
3200 was Maseratis return and all were very sceptical about it......I for one loved shape etc....
Howmanyleft shows 213 manual (2012) 302 (2005) at this rate 15yrs time they'll be extinct !!!!
So look after them and in 15yrs they will be a classic (imho.....they are a classic) !

At current rates of export to Austrailia and general failure to stop before impact with a heavy object, I reckon we will be down to 100 manuals, 100 autos and 3 AC's by 2015.

Cool I may hang on to mine a while longer then. Although I was toying with the idea of going topless and down to 2 seats next summer, the rain this year has put me off a little.
